This marked the 10th anniversary of this group's founding, all the way back in 2014. As you can imagine, this place has has seen many changes and experiments over the years as I've tried to settle on a particular vision for it. Fret not, this isn't one of those moments. I'm not opening the group up again, or revamping the entire thing on some hair-brained idea I came up with on a whim. No, the current vision of a friends-only group is still the way to go. While there may be minor changes here and there, going forward, this should be the final form of this group. If I'm not satisfied at this point, I might just delete it entirely.

That being said, there are some things I must go over and change.

The first, and most important change is a new rule: being on my friends list is now mandatory for membership. To coincide with this new rule, I have a second announcement:


Yep, I am indeed doubling down and going all in on the whole "friends list-only group" idea. I know I said I wouldn't purge anyone not on my friends list last announcement. But after some reflection on it, I must sadly renege on that statement as I have changed my mind. In preparation for this event, I have already purged my friends list proper. If I have unfriended you, please note it is not at all personal. Thankfully, if you are not on my friends list and wish to stay in this group, there is one simple solution: just re-add me on Steam and I will consider it.


To give you all a fair chance to do so, the group purge will begin on May 18th. That is one week from now. I would say that is plenty of time to do this, particularly for those of you offline when this announcement was posted. Failure to contact me on Steam will result in expulsion from the group on that date. You have been warned. Otherwise, to those who will be removed, I wish you good luck in whatever endeavors you take on next.

To ensure a smooth operation and prevent shenanigans, I have temporarily revoked your ability to post/edit Events. Once the purge is complete and I have sent new invites to the rest of my friends list, I will re-instate that power.

Truth be told, I was going to do this on the actual anniversary date, but personal/professional obligations erm, distracted me. And so it's less of an anniversary celebration and more of an appropriate Spring cleaning.

In January of 2015, I opened up JCLEG to the public, around the 1 year anniversary of it's founding in fact. I did so as mainly an experiment to see what I could do with the place if I ever got notoriety in some way, whether that was through YouTubing, artistry, voice acting, you name it.

That was more than 6 1/2 years ago. That was back when I was barely getting out of high school and didn't know what to do with my life, so to me the sky was the limit. I'm in my mid-twenties now and a lot has changed since then. I have undertaken a lot introspection and understand who I am and what I want out of life, or at least closer to understanding a lot more than I did 6 1/2 years ago anyway.

One of the revelations I've had over this time is...I am not cut out to be e-famous. Mostly due to lack of commitment on my part. Anyone remember my Twitch channel? How about Youtube? I haven't touched those in years. Or what about those "bi-monthly" Moderator Elections? Quit after two tries.

Bottom line is all of these failed experiments tell me I can't take the time to improve and promote activity on JCLEG enough for it to grow. The largest this place got was no more than ~60 or so, and for every member who joined, one more would leave. Clearly it's time to give up the ghost.

And so effective today, John Caveson's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is hereby PRIVATE. That means someone can't join unless they are invited. As such, I have restricted such power to myself, therefore only I can add members to this group. This is to fall in line with the new direction this group will go. That being, a return to form as a private, friends list group.

To be completely honest, I've been meaning to make it official for years now. In fact, I even mulled over closing it off, kicking out everyone, and just deleting the group entirely. But I wasn't quite 100% sure yet to go through with it, so I found this use for it instead. That, and I was also just too lazy to put in the work to overhaul it. And so JCLEG has been lying in this dormant limbo since 2016.

Of the few of you who are not on my friends list at the time of this announcement, do not fret. I won't purge you or anything. You are free to stay or leave as you please. Just be forewarned, in that if you do decide to leave, you cannot return. And don't bother trying to add me as a friend to try to get back in as I am not accepting any random friend requests. It's nothing personal.
