Probably not actually, at least for life on earth. Contrary to popular belief, more carbon in the air might not be a bad thing for the planet as whole, as millions of years ago there were volcanoes spewing way more "pollutants" into the air, and life was thriving from it. The real reason everyone is so afraid of pollution and global warming is really because they're afraid for themselves, as a climate change could wipe out humanity. I'm not an expert though

Considering humans live around all parts of the world in all kinda of conditions, capable of living underground or taking to space (although that won't be possible for some time), it would take nothing short of a sudden and volatile climate change to threaten mankind on an extinction level. Pollution on the other hand seems more likely to successfully sneak in while alerting no one, and could become an irreverseable problem.


Consider the oceans being dumped with plastics that don't biodegrade. Filling the ocean with tons of toxic chemicals released from the plastics, and from there it goes into the atomosphere. Fish now have notible signs of plastic in their body, and could be a health risk for anything that relies on a seafood diet. For starters plastic pollution of the ocean could potentially lead to the extinction of most oceanic life if left unchecked.


And that's just one way pollution could come up and bite us in the butt.
