I really wanted to love this game. I love the tabletop version but I just can't recommend this. I was hoping for like a Mount and Blade in Battletech with battles similar to tabletop, what I got was a grueling meta-game balanced time that removes a any real semblance of choice, fun, and any chance at roleplaying.

The average battle begins with your lance (four mechs) fighting an enemy's lance. However after a turn, another enemy lance will pop in and pepper you with missiles and stagger and damage you. Being outnumbered (and out tonnaged) is the norm in this game, and it was made this way on purpose by the developers. Which, when I looked up guides to help, suggested very narrow strategies and mech & pilot builds to beat this "difficulty".

You're supposed to make min-maxed mech builds, you're supposed to exploit the initiative system, you're supposed to only use a few of the many pilot skills, you're supposed to only use certain tactics to win.

It's just not fun.

A unique game about being a mercenary company with huge mechs, flying around in a spaceship in a deep lore universe, visiting planets, and making a living via accepting contracts from the big galactic states. The battle tactics and the long term strategy are quite good, but the game becomes really amazing if you use any of the overhaul mods. Personally I use BattleTech Extended Tactics (aka BEX).

Have tried a few times to get into Battletech and somehow this time I managed to get past the overwhelming early game this time around. If you like deep strategy games, turn based combat and a simple but quite satisfying progression system, this is your game.
