It's alright

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links was once my go-to game, and I was completely hooked from the moment it launched on mobile. Over the years, I poured countless hours into it over 8,000, to be exact, collecting nearly every card, finishing all the story arcs, unlocking and maxing out every character, and reaching King of Games status multiple times. It was an incredible journey, and the game had so much potential. However, I’ve finally decided to quit, and here’s why.

While the game is still very much alive and even has a PC port now, the developers have made some baffling decisions that have completely ruined the experience for me and millions of others. Their overly ambitious attempt to combine all the different Yu-Gi-Oh! eras into one game simply doesn’t work. The newer decks are designed so differently from the earlier arcs that they’re not compatible, and cards from one era are no match for those from another. This imbalance has turned online multiplayer into a chaotic mess, making it nearly unplayable. The multiplayer is also haunted by bots that grind for online wins.

I even thought about starting the new recently released Yu-Gi-Oh! game, but the idea of collecting all the cards over again feels like an impossible task. After spending years building my collection in Duel Links, I simply can’t imagine repeating the process. It’s a commitment I’m not willing to make, and it’s a major reason why I’ve decided to pass on the new game.

As someone who spent years building hundreds of unique, devastating decks, it’s heartbreaking to see the game in this state. The lack of distinction between the different types of decks has completely undermined the strategic depth that made Duel Links so enjoyable in the first place. The developers’ optimism in trying to merge everything into one game has backfired, and it’s clear they didn’t think this through.

Duel Links was once a fantastic game, but the direction it has taken has left me with no choice but to walk away. It’s a shame because the game had so much promise, and I truly loved it for a long time. I understand that the developers can't go back and reconsider their approach, but for now, I can’t continue to support a game that has lost its way. It's a shame to say but it's dead to me.
