Honestly the game itself was enjoyable but frustrating at nearly every step. The combat is as jarring as any game with the same type of system and beyond that I can't say much in terms of combat because every problem I really had was with the story and choices of the game.
So when it came to choices I genuinely hated most of them because they almost entirely made no difference, no decision you make has any real impact and the game towards the end really does just blatantly shoe horn you into a specific path even if you had no intention of following said path. I honestly don't any point in having unique dialogue options after act 1 if you meet the requirements because they don't do anything for you. All but a handful of options in this game were vapid and meaningless because nothing I did changed anything unless it was the final decision and the change such a decision made was surface level most of the time because it never comes up until later and even then they don't mean anything. When it came to gaining favor or wrath I was even more infuriated because some of the choices that caused me to gain wrath were ridiculous and made no actual sense. I flat out enabled the setting the shows me what choices gives me favor and which gives me wrath and the favor options still gave me wrath. Not to mention the amount of wrath or favor I had with a faction didn't really effect a single thing for my character in terms of how I was treated or unique dialogue choices.
When it game to the story about half way through act 2 the whole thing just felt rushed and poorly put together to just shove the game out and I lost any actual influence on the game cause no matter what I did everyone just chooses to kill you. It feels like they could have done significantly more for the game and even added to more acts to give us a proper resolution and actually explore our new power and feel like we made a real impact on the world rather then doing an epilogue slide show to. Even then the game tells us we are an officer in the armies of Kyros but it really feels like we are a low rank grunt because everyone can boss us around and we never are really given an opportunity to actually lead or take command in any actual capacity.

I just played Pillars of Eternity and didn't like it.

I hadn't read anything about either games beforehand and didn't know they were somehow related.

It felt like I was playing the same game.

cool premise on the crpg. i love the immersive story, backed with memorable characters with tons of choices. The item drops are pretty cool however by the time you get to super cool enhanced items the game is already over. but then again its multi-class tier upgrade is interesting in itself.

the best thing about this game is its random and short enough to start up an entirely new game and try different choices with different characters, so great replayability factor. art style is great, music great, and definitely leaves you wanting more at the end.
