I haven't been able to figure out why, but every time I try and play, it's in literal slo-mo. Does anyone know what to do?

I'm interested in knowing the entire series story, and gaining this knowledge with as few games as possible. If someone can answer the header question, that'd be enough. Even better is if an outline of what to play can be provided.

First of all I love the GGXX sub-serie as a whole and I'm enjoying myself pretty well on this older version but why is this "obsolete" edition of the game still available when a newer one is here as well? Or is it like when Street Fighter Alpha 3 is a thing but some people are still playing Alpha 2?...
