Have you verified the integrity of your download? If you've only recently started seeing the crash, a corrupt file for something endgame related is a likely suspect.
yes the integrity is good. i only started experiancing the problem towards the end of the game.
It has to be a windows thing. I run Steam on my Linux machine and have no issues. My Fiancee though is using windows 11, and her copy crashes all the time
Mine gets all laggy and crashes at the first battle. This is the only game that gives me problems. I know 100% it's not my computer. I'm about to make Steam give me a refund for a broken game.
Use FFXIII Fix, that fix all the performance issues

https://github.com/rebtd7/FF13Fix

You can play all the game at steady 60 fps without any drop or stutter.

Thanks, this improves performance greatly, but the game still crashes or freezes after most battles.

Actually, I got it working. For some reason I have to override the graphics settings in my GPU's control panel. That wasn't exactly enough, I think there' still an issue if the VRAM exceeds 8 GB of usage, so I had to drop the resolution down to 3072x1728. This keeps VRAM below 7 GB, and the game is crash free. I optionally enabled AMD's upscaling, but if your monitor supports centering with no upscaling that is probably better looking.

This game shouldnt be accessing 8GB of VRAM, RAM maybe, but even with a mod thats still unlikely.
Yeah, I guess there are other parts of the system using some VRAM too, but going by the total in AMD's OSD stats utility I noticed that when it's below 8 GB it's completely stable and playable.

I believe when you use the GPU control panel to override settings, like with AA or texture tweaks, it causes VRAM usage to go up.

Could be a memory leak i guess

The normal way of things is that when a GPUs VRAM gets used up the system will start using RAM to increase the available video memory, Half of your total RAM can be used for that, if you have 16GB RAM then up to 8GB can be used for example.

I suppose there are some things you have enabled that could affect VRAM usage, Super Resolution, Frame Gen, stuff like that, which is why its usually best to not force such things on a game that doesnt natively support it.
Thanks everyone. I now own a few I7 laptops, and every game I want to play is playable.
You have a ten year old laptop? That is impressive in itself.
So impressive that I have two hard drives in the Alienware I7. Asus tough's are just as good, but considerably lighter in weight.
i get a none responding message on my final fantasy 13 window when i shuffle through a few windows or even shuffle through some music on my laptop. this is a serious ongoing problem and the game needs to be updated so the window is more secure. for example final fantasy 12 zodiac age has no problems flipping windows and playing video or mp3 in the background. sorry but this game is bugged/out dated
