Finally! A Star Wars game where developers can take liberties with the lore without offending fans. This game REALLY makes you feel like a Star War.

I played this game just because I wanted to take my anger out on masses of storm troopers. And I might actually get the chance to do that in real life if America keeps sliding the way it’s going.

All kidding aside, this game is great. Not just for the men, but the women and the children too! It is the most "Star Wars" any Star Wars game has ever been. Massive did a phenomenal job and they deserve far more credit for this. If only I could kill younglings like in the movies though…

You ever play Far Cry or Assassins Creed? If you like those type of games, you might like Outlaws. If you hate those kind of games, you probably won't like it, unless the SW theme really does it for you. Personally I’m enjoying the hell out of it. A lot of people like to hate these days as it’s fashionable I guess, but I absolutely loved exploring the world and soaking in the atmosphere as a 37 year old lifelong SW Fan and I have to admit that it really does feel like the SW I love. It starts off slow but for a good reason the game rewards patience and being methodical and “slow”. Once you get through the first couple hours as it eases you into the mechanics and characters the safety bumpers get pulled off as it opens up letting you explore at your leisure and it becomes an open living SW world. You can spend an entire play session just playing sabacc or betting on races. You can also spend hours exploring the world and making rewarding discoveries or playing the syndicates to your advantage or against themselves for rewards.

It's so cool being in these big bustling cities that are super dense and really feel lived in. It's like nothing we've gotten to experience before in SW games. There are so many details. Droid stalls, food kiosks, troopers patrolling, people simply everywhere, gambling, you name it! It took me a long time before I got far in the game because I was just loving being in these cities. Sabbac is really fun and a lot deeper than I thought it would be. I honestly just love leaning on the bar in the Cantina and picking out the music. People talk everywhere all the time, and the crazy bit is I have barely heard any one repeating lines in my many hours of just being in one of the many cities.

Driving around on the speeder is actually really fun too. Some reviews say it's slow but I think they are crazy, and it's yet another thing we haven't really gotten to do in an open world other than swtor I guess, but it feels good. The open spaces are beautiful and the draw distance is crazy. I think the world environments are some of the absolute best in regard to SW and feel so immersive because of it. Yeah the gunplay and stealth are pretty vanilla, but overall I had fun. Breaks up the stealth with puzzles, and platforming ala Fallen Order. And nix can do so many cool things to shake up things. I also like that a lot of places have multiple ways to enter. It’s a solid open world SW game and amazingly, no light sabers. Not that light sabres are bad, just that it’s awesome we finally get to explore a world beyond the Jedi fight. I loved being in a game where I'm not a Jedi or the universe doesn't revolve around me. Just a crime doer, doing crime. You know what people say, hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster.

I really liked all the little things you can do in the world. Arcade games, gambling, little spots to sit and take in a view or eavesdrop on conversations to get intel. There’s no towers. No message boards that litter the map with question marks. You can of course stumble upon unknown areas of interest but most everything I did was by finding a data pad, hacking a terminal, buying intel, overhearing a conversation, or being given a contract to go find. There’s no leveling or ability points. Upgrades to your character skills are obtained by gaining new tools from different story missions or by meeting experts and then completing tasks associated with their expertise. For example you might need to do X amount of stealth takedowns to unlock an ability, or meet a certain number of merchants, or hack into a certain number of terminals, etc. It’s a nice change up or the typical grind of fight enemy, get XP, get a point to spend on a skill tree.

The gang and wanted systems work really well in the game. It's nothing ground breaking but it feels "right". Breaking into an imperial base to steal some data, hiding out, then bribing a local imperial commander to drop your wanted level felt very Star Wars. The reputation system in which the choices you make throughout the game can impact how the various gang syndicates accept or despise you, can grant easier access to different areas, open up new contracts and side quest opportunities, and gives you deeper inventory and discounts from merchants tied to that syndicate. You can also fill requests for them to get special items. I also really liked the wanted system with the Imperials where they will radio in and reveal your location and you are hunted down. You can lower this by paying off crooked troopers or by hiding until they give up the search. It really nails the tone/vibe of "scoundrel" adventuring in Star Wars, all daring escapes and one-in-a-million shots and bulls**tting your way out of sticky situations.

It has a solid & lighthearted story with a good voice cast and I've come to really enjoy the soundtrack that does a great addition to the ever growing variety of sounds and styles that Star Wars music has come to be. It has its issues with gameplay mechanics not feeling as deep or as smooth as it could have been and is definitely not anywhere near being a perfect game, but I'm genuinely looking forward to playing it again once hopefully other DLCs come out. It's fun and while it could have used more polish it's received way more flak than it deserves. The world is so well designed and feels like you're walking around inhabited worlds. It scratches an itch that EA didn't bother reaching for and one that Fallen Order and Survivor largely missed out on with their mostly uninhabited worlds. Disregarding its reception(which was always going to be an uphill battle for various reasons), it actually is not a bad first step into a return for non-EA Star Wars games.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing it. It may not be perfect, but you can tell that the people who made it love Star Wars. It's nothing groundbreaking, nothing outstanding, but it's just fun and the sort of Star Wars game that we've been lacking! Yeah, “Nothing groundbreaking, nothing outstanding” should be Ubisofts company logo, but thing is, even their middling games are weirdly fun. They’re the fast food equivalent of games - they’re not the best thing you could get but they’re good enough to satisfy you for a while by relying on simple but effective ingredients. So it didn’t reinvent the wheel, and it wasn't supposed to. But for someone who just wanted to live that smuggler street rat life and just... be in the Star Wars world, it's great. The game itself is a 7 or 8 but… it’s a fantastic Star Wars game that every fan should play!

I have been unable to play for the most part...there's a ridiculous camera bug that forces the view all the way up or down depending on what side of the bed it woke up on today. This bug happens roughly every 15 seconds and makes the game literally impossible to play. I tried looking up quick fixes for QOL playability and nothing helped.

Not to mention. I didn't even make it to the first save auto save screen before the game froze and crashed. I haven't had to CTRL + ALT + DEL a game in years, steam or not....and this was the first one.

I'm going to give it a few more chances and will update here when I do...but if I had to base my review on what I know so far, I would have never bought the game....

UPDATE 1: Post 5 Hours of game-play. I tried several controllers that are confirmed to work with no issues. It wasn't the control. Definitely the game. I have played with PS4 dual-shock and several PS5 controllers as well as a SCUF Vantage 2.

I managed to play for several hours this time without the screen movement issue. However, for some random reason, near the end of my session, it started up again. I shut the game down and will try again tomorrow.

UPDATE 2: Another 3 hours in. No Camera issues this time but a forced crash again. Randomly playing along. Nothing crazy, no graphics issues. My PC is running fine....game just froze and closed....

UPDATE 3: This is my last update. I have played this game for almost 30 hours now...It really is fun for me and I would change my vote to thumbs up if it didn't keep crashing all the time. I will play it and complain but man it really does just quit working at random points and its very annoying.....I would only buy this on sale and NEVER at full price.

UPDATE 4: The devs must know that I wrote a bad review on this game because today. 6/17 is the worst day I've had playing. Worse than the first day with the screen view issue. This game has crashed 5 times in the 2 hours I've been playing. Most recently, after completion of two major quests...I wonder if my save is there....

Update 5: I cant help but keep updating this....I try and play...Crash....I restart my computer. Crash. I get to a new location and something happens that not autosaving just yet....crash....play it again....crash...5:45pm

Update 6: Crash 5:55pm - Crash 6:15pm - Crash 7:00pm - Crash 7:18

Something I've noticed. If you recreate the crash conditions exactly....It will repeat. But if you go a different route or close out some notifications in the menu screen before moving forward....it's like the game goes a different route and it works...idkkkkkk

Normally I would just delete this. But 2 things need to be said.

1. Steam is awesome. Within 15 mins i got a refund. And will happily continue to buy.
2. UBISOFT and company's as large as them need a reality check. The ONLY reason i decided to buy this was for SW and I would have NEVER bought it directly from UBI, I am old af and I know better. Steam gave me the opportunity to try it with me knowing they would make it right when it messed up. And boy did it ever, from the very start. UBI is in the same category as Blizzard. Bloated, cocky, money grubbing morons. All this did was make me never want to play an UBI game again

I cant even get this piece of junk to start. Did all i need to do with UBI launcher.....Far surpass minimum requirements. Yet the game just sits there at load screen, when I click space bar to start it DOES NOTHING.

This is no surprise coming from UBISOFT. Another GIGANTIC company that has lost touch. I wont waste another second on this garbage, requested refund. Wont play or BUY another game on until refund is received. Im not worried tho, unlike UBI, Steam knows what they are doing, refund will come.
