Firstly I want to advise that I played KOTOR 2 with the restoration mod which greatly enhances and puts together the remaining content which was lacking from Obsidian. I can't comment on the vanilla aspect of this game, though I'm sure other reviews on Steam touch base on this.

Gameplay-wise, it retains the same D20-based combat system and dialogue-driven progression, but it's the narrative and character development that stand out. The companion cast is incredibly compelling, and your choices feel weighty. However, the game was notoriously rushed at launch, resulting in bugs, pacing issues, and a missing final act—though fan restoration mods have significantly improved the experience, which you can easily implement via Steam or Nexus Mods.

Overall, KOTOR 2 is a flawed gem: deeper and more daring than its predecessor, but in need of polish, which then requires the restoration mod. With the restored content, it becomes a must-play for any RPG or Star Wars fan looking for something bold and thought-provoking, as KOTOR 2 provides an excellent story with very engaging characters and strong voice acting which holds up well in this era of games.

One of the greatest RPGs of all time in game play and writing. Get the restoration mod to make the game less buggy and more complete overall, absolutely worth it.
