The best Star Wars story, in all honesty. At least accounting for the video games.

A tad bit broken on a technical level, and unfinished on a narrative level, so make sure to install the Restored Content mod 10/10 times.
Gameplay is an improvement over the first on almost all levels, the story is more dark, more mature, and covers deep subjects in a complex manner.
Whilst the first KOTOR would place you in a classic tale of good vs evil, akin to the original trilogy, KOTOR 2 delves deeper into the everyday lives of common people living in the Star Wars universe, how they perceive the main characters of these stories, and most importantly, the impact that wars and endless conflicts have on said characters. You will slowly peel back the surface layers of every one of your crewmates, in proportion to your interest in them. They are far from straightforward, often harboring feelings of deep regret and an ever-present trauma that seems to have them stuck either in a perpetual cycle of self-hatred, or the inability to move on to find their place in the galaxy.

Those are the main topics of KOTOR 2: the trauma of war, the suffering so deeply embedded into everyone who actively participated in war, or those who suffered as victims of war. And true hope lies within each and everyone, coming to grips with these internal struggles, seeing the purpose in this self-reflection offering them strength, and using this strength to guide future generations. Never too late to do the right thing, accept the past.
