I'm writing this here because I haven't had the chance to test it in-game, and I hope someone who knows the answer might help.

Suppose you have started your own small kingdom, with a handful of vassal lords. Then you complete the Aegon/Daenerys invasion quest line from Varys and the Targaryens land on Westeros. I would like to know if, after you swear an oath of fealty to serve the Targaryens (thus abandoning your sovereign kingdom), your previous vassal lords also accept to serve the Targaryens, or they return to their previous lieges?
