You can use the latter method to get other races ships as well. Just make sure it's final tier if you do that.

Someone on comments section reported that deleting the characters shipworld file in starbound/storage/player gave him the new ship without bugs. I personally had missing teleport with that method and went with:


1) Boot up starbound and login to your old slime character and beam to ship
2) press esc and save & quit
3) Create a new slime character (feel free to redo that until you get slime pet colour as you want on your main slime and skip the tutorial)
4) use "/admin" in chat and then "/spawnitem shipTX" (x beiing the tier number your ship on your main slime is at)
5) save &quit and then quit the game entierly
6) go to your steam library and locate starbound, right click on it and click properties
7) click on Local files tab and then click on Browse local files
8) navigate to storage folder by double clicking on it and then do the same to player folder
9) right click on blank white space in your explorer and click sort by and date modified (windows 7, other windows or os might have this a bit differently; I prefer the details view as well to see all the times and dates)
10) look for 2nd newest .shipworld file (it should look something like this 329049267fc4213509b65e3fcdb124fc.shipworld)
11) right click on it and select rename
12) hold left ctrl and then press C button while holding that ctrl
13) click enter and then delete that file
14) go to the newest .shipworld file and select rename again
15) hold left ctrl and press V button while holding that ctrl
16) press enter
17) go back to starbound and delete the new slime character
18) play your old slime character
