Description of issue

The game crashes to desktop whenever I click on the "Create variant" button from the "Build Ships" menu or when I click on the "Design" tab on a Ship Details window. The issue is only present on my current play through and does not happen on new games or old saves, However I would appreciate it if I didn't have revert to an old save due to the length of time involved. I'm not sure but I think it started happening after I installed BBA...
