Gem Race Abilities
Ever think of having "Frackin Races"-type abilities and weaknesses for Gems? I thought of a few possibilities.

+Higher health/defense/resistances because Gems can take a lot of punishment
+No/Lowered need to eat
+More breath underwater.
-Less energy/higher energy cooldown since they are passively using energy to exist as more than just rocks
-Weakness to electricity maybe? To represent Destabilizers
-Cannot get "Well-fed" buff.

If you'd be able to tell blunt damage from piercing/slashing damage, you could give a resistance to blunt and a weakness to sharp as well, since that seems to be a thing. (Getting punched through rocks, but poofing on a single stab etc) That might be a better one then a blanket upping health. But yeah, I'm playing my Azurite on Casual to avoid having to eat, myself.

But the breath thing's tricky maybe. You should be able to handle space as well as water, but does that balance alright? Not having to have an epp for underwater/no atmo could be a bit much. Unless the Glitch already have that as well? Another suggestion I might make is glowing. They all seem to be able to project light, so a lantern-like effect might be nice.

Overall my main concern is to have them not be OP, but still give them the right feel. Energy might be a thought though, yeah.

All that aside, digging the mod.

Well, here are the 'official' Frackin Races changes... http://sayterdarkwynd.github.io/races.html . A couple races have increased oxygen, and some even immune to drowning. I don't think there is a blunt/sharp difference, unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I did just have the thought that the energy shield tech might not hurt as an intrinsic for them instead of a defense buff. They can take extra punishment but if they over exert while fighting then they're more likely to get poofed. Also gives more of an incentive towards energy buffs than just layering on armor for defence stat.

I think minor hot/cold resistance might be ok, but not the extremes. So it'd protect against say the deserts that would drain your energy with the heat, but not let you swim in lava. If you wanna go Bismuth/Garnet style heat immunity, then you'll probably need to spring for the required EPP, or cheat it in if you really want it early. I did that with the breathing EPP with an invisible backpack social item early on + casual to not need to eat.

Enjoying the mod so far, overall. I've gotten a basic control room established with a Peridot tech to run it, looking to expand the operation from there.

I've contemplated it but it's a little low on my list of stuff to do, possibly due to the fact that I don't use Frackin' Races and that Gems represented faithfully to the show would be really OP. I may give it more thought later.

A heads-up though: you can totally make a FR-like patch for this mod or request it to be added to Frackin' Races, even! (DISCLAIMER - This isn't a guarantee that Sayter will grant the request. But you can ask.)

Yeah, I'm a game designer myself and I was puzzling over how to manage balancing them. And y'know, that's fair. I might try screwing with it at some point. Thinking a defence nerf and adding in a boost to energy+the shield tech as an intrinsic. Makes them decently tough but they can over extend if they're not careful, and it makes secondary modes have more of a risk/reward to them. Have them focus on energy upgrades instead of defence stat, and means they have to be more strategic when they fight. Because at the end of the day, a lot of the damage in the game is piercing or slash if you think about it, which isn't something they're strong against. Mix in a weakness to electricity too. Then you can add in the no breathe and temp resistances, along with some boost to jump and not needing to eat. Seems like it'd make them pretty decent explorers although you'd need to learn how to fight with them. Something I'll think over, and post here if I do anything with it.

Edit: Also since this is a patch for a mod instead of a unique species, how do I go about overwriting parts of yours?

How about when you create a gem, you get to fill in a chart similar to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from fallout.
you could also choose a preset like 'ruby' or 'pearl'. And mabye choose one of the gem weapons in the game

That'd be lovely, but outside the bounds of the game's mechanics. At that point you're better off finding another game to mod that does include that kind of character creation.

That would be awesome! If I learn how to make race modifiers and you don't make this, I might eventually make this. But if you do plan on making this, please let me know, I'd be excited to know

I've been working on/playing so many other things that I honestly forgot about this- and my Kindergarten in progress has probably gotten pretty boring for the poor Peridot I assigned to it. Unfortunately I'm currently working on a not-mod project and the idea of trying to dig through how to make this work isn't on my radar. Seeing someone do it though would be awesome though yeah.

@Un petit chou-fleur
literally the indix have the exact same things that gems should have, don't breath, don't eat, kinda strong, but hella easy to 'poof'
