Hmm how about classes? Like, starting gear, maybe some for damage dealers ( Better starting weapons ) some for tanks ( Better starting armor ) and some sort of mage that relies on staves.. Well.. A little more ambitious, but why not try and make playstyles that you can't usually do in starbound?.. Like a healer, I know there are a few mods out there that give you items that allow you to heal other players, or maybe something that could give them energy?

in general i wasnt planning on making any custom assets for this project, the motivation was based on the simplicity of just rearranging vanilla assets

Huh.. Awesome!- Starbound as an RPG style game.. Its honestly never really been something thats occured to me but it sounds great. Well.. How about, like how the character creation is, clothing ( armor ) that you can set individually- What if you used vanity armors and gave them the same stats as regular armor so a true RPGer could just set fourth with it on the get go. Like http://starbounder.org/Spacesuit_Set or http://starbounder.org/Caretaker_Set . Even then, there are a lot of individual standalone vanity helmets that might work http://starbounder.org/Steampunk_Helmet and http://starbounder.org/Plague_Master_Mask for example.
