Bugs and Issues with Alpha 17
Please let me know if you run into any issues with Alpha 17.

Known issues that I am working on fixing:
  • Currently, there are some issues with the Facial Stuff mod. You may get errors and you may see that your characters are not being drawn to the screen properly.
  • If a scenario includes a "Start Near" part that spawns ship chunks (and probably other similar items as well), those chunks will not spawn on the map if you Prepare Carefully.

When reporting bugs, it's really helpful if you can try to reproduce the bug with only the Prepare Carefully mod enabled to help me tell if it's a regular bug or a mod compatibility bug. If it's something that happens only when a mod is enabled, let me know which mods you're using.

If you know how to find the game's error log file or how to enable development mode, the contents of the log or a screenshot of the development console can be very helpful in figuring out what happened.

Creating a new game in A17. If I click on the dice to randomize a colonist, health effects are continuously appended, never replaced. Prepare Carefully never seems to clear out any previously generated ones, so if you randomize several times, you end up with a colonist with 10+ health effects.

Can't load A17 presets, can load presets that were generated on A16.

Thanks for the bug report. Anyone who is having this problem who knows how to look at the game's error logs or bring up the development log while in-game, can you post any errors that you see?

Multiple people have reported the same problem, but it works fine for me, so I'm having trouble figuring out what's happening.

Came here to say this hahaha.... wasn't paying attention, and a colonist just dropped dead from a massive heart attack as soon as I loaded lol... 5 artery blockages and a ton of scars

I noticed when loading specific characters it randomizes their backstory and adds alot of health effects. And i also noticed relationships not saving

for some reason when im making a character i can pick what bionic limb to add but cant select between the left or right limb

Just using vanilla or are you adding modded parts from EPOE, Rah's Bionics or another mod?

Thanks for the bug report. I'm not seeing the backstory randomization, but I definitely see that the health conditions are not being loaded properly. I'll take a closer look.

im using EPOE but got it to work by chaning the load order of mods

Ok. Glad you got it to work. I'll still take a look at it. Ideally, the load order would not be affecting that--I should figure out why.

Just wanted to add that I, too, can't load presets with A17. I've tried it with other mods, and just using Prepare Carefully, and either way trying to load a preset does nothing.

Edit: Also tried changing up the load order, still encountering the same problem.

Second Edit: Turns out that the individual character presets I saved do still work, interestingly enough.

A couple of questions:
  • Do you get any error message when it fails, i.e. "Failed to load colonists from the preset..." or "Could not fully load preset..." or does it just do nothing and fail silently?
  • Have you tried saving a preset for a brand new set of characters that you did not customize and then loading that? I'm curious if there's a specific customization that's causing a problem, or if it's broken just for everything.

It working for me--that's why I'm asking questions. I can't get it to fail, but I know it's failing for a lot of people.

Nope, I do not get any kind of error message at all. I click on the Load Preset button and nothing happens at all.

And I just tested your second idea and yes, it does seem to work. I made a new preset and only customized the names and it loaded just fine.

most selected items for spawn are not spawning. Random conditions i.e. addictions, relationships aren't working. Keep up the great work on fixing these this wouldn't be an issue but you have gotten us all reliant on your mod.
