I havent played Floran with FU before but with the starting food from the ship locker and some hunting gear, you should be able to gather enough meat to survive through the starting area... later, if cooking isnt your thing, you can just buy more canned food at the outpost.

Exactly as above im playing a carnivore aswell rn and all you need to do is research hunting much sooner than normal it's in agriculture if you need to find it.

You can also sell the foods you can't eat to buy meat from a vender.

I've started filling my hunger at the science outpost since it seems to always count as daytime there and save food for mining. The floran hunger debuff causes the hunger bar to empty about 2.5 times each night but it varies greatly depending on activity since attacking uses hunger as a floran. When first starting it is very difficult to have enough food but now that I know what I'm doing it might be possible for me if I were to start over.

I still think it is a bit much.

The floran ability to not only eat raw meat but get a buff from it completely offsets any inconvenience from their hunger being spent on attacks. Frankly floran are the easiest species by far to keep fed, as you can just buy stacks of bacon at the outpost, since it can be purchased all at once it stacks without a rot-modifying mod, so you can put it on your hotbar easily unlike most foods. As far as I know, all spears count as hunting weapons in FU as well, so you should almost constantly be getting raw meat off enemies that are capable of dropping it if you're playing along with the floran racial bonus for spears.

Hmmmm seems like I'm not getting the meat drops I am supposed to be getting then. Do different hunting weapons give different drop chances? I am using the hunting rifle, would a spear be better or the same?

I played FU for quite a bit. So it might be hard at the beginning with a herbivore, but I can promise that the future is bright for herbivores. So many easy foods just after a little bit of agriculture.

I'm playing Droden, from some suggested addons to go along FU. I had to eat only Iron for so long, which was expensive, till I got to Glitch vegetables....

Fun fact that will make life easy once more if you haven't found it yet: At the science outpost there's a floran merchant that sells only meats. You can buy raw steak there for 5 pixels apiece. I had to visit that place once with a couple thousand pixels and haven't had to worry about starvation since ;)
