Do bees work on space stations?
And if so how does the day/night cycle work - do they always think it's night or day or do they think it's night for a few minutes then day for a few minutes?

I believe bees only function on planets, precisely because they depend on a day/night cycle to operate.

FU likes to pretend the custom space station feature doesn't exist to the point I've never built one in my FU playthrough.

We do? We add several space station rooms :) But stations are a tacked on feature that few use, mostly because there isnt a reason with BYOS

Bees only do anything on planets. Putting them anywhere else is a waste of time.

Did that get changed? I remember getting them to work on my ship a couple of times. Don't know about how day/night works there, so I stuck in some solar frames.

I'm a necromancer from the future, here to tell those finding this thread via search, looking for answers, that bees do work on ships and stations. All 'worlds' have a day night cycle, including stations and ships. Even midnight planets just 'cheat' by making the daytime colors the same as nighttime.

So.. the next question would be what ships/stations count as for bee preferences as bees have a preference for certain planets/biomes.

The wiki says stations give no preference bonus or penalty.
