Vozneslya Federation: Background Sketch

Geography and Scope:
Vozneslya is a vast federation that spans an entire continent, encompassing diverse landscapes ranging from dense northern forests and rugged mountain ranges to expansive steppes and fertile river valleys. Its territorial claim includes coastal regions with strategic ports, vast agricultural plains, and resource-rich highlands.

Political Structure:
As a federation, Vozneslya is composed of multiple semi-autonomous provinces and regions, each with its own local governance but united under a central federal government. The federation operates under a constitution that balances regional autonomy with centralized authority, ensuring cohesion across its vast territory.

History and Formation:
Vozneslya emerged from a series of alliances and unifications among smaller kingdoms, duchies, and tribal confederations over centuries. Its name, meaning "Ascension" or "Rising," symbolizes the federation’s ambition to elevate its people and culture to prominence. The federation was officially established after a pivotal unification war that ended decades of fragmentation and conflict on the continent.

(Before federation period there was Imperial Age when the "pivotal unification war" took place. After that war Vozneslya became the continental state that suffered a serious political crisis. To avoid the crisis the Emperor of Vozneslya and its Assembly have decreed the federalization pact that officially ended the Imperial Age. After this pact the Emperor became "Leader")

Culture and Society:
The federation is culturally diverse, reflecting the many ethnic groups and traditions within its borders. Despite this diversity, a shared language and common federal identity promote unity. Vozneslyan culture values resilience, community, and a strong connection to the land, with festivals and traditions celebrating the changing seasons and historical milestones.

Economy and Resources:
Vozneslya’s economy is multifaceted, leveraging its abundant natural resources such as timber, minerals, and fertile soil. Trade flourishes through its extensive network of rivers and ports, connecting the federation internally and with external partners. Industrial centers coexist with traditional agriculture, and technological innovation is encouraged to maintain economic competitiveness.

Military and Defense:
Given its size and strategic importance, Vozneslya maintains a formidable defense force. The military is organized to protect the federation’s extensive borders and maintain internal stability. A combination of standing armies, regional militias, and a naval fleet ensures security against external threats and internal unrest.

Challenges and Ambitions:
While Vozneslya’s claim over the entire continent is a source of pride, it also presents challenges such as managing diverse populations, regional disparities, and external diplomatic pressures. The federation’s leadership is focused on fostering integration, economic development, and maintaining sovereignty in a complex geopolitical landscape.

Political Structure of Vozneslya

Federal System:
Vozneslya is governed as a federal republic composed of numerous provinces and regions, each with its own local government and legislative bodies. The federation’s constitution delineates powers between the central government and regional authorities, aiming to balance unity with regional autonomy.

Supreme Leader:
The highest authority in Vozneslya holds the title “Vozhd of the Federation” (Вождь Федерации), which translates roughly as “Leader” or “Chieftain.” This title reflects both the historical roots of the federation’s unification and the supreme executive power vested in this office. The Vozhd is elected by a Federal Assembly for a fixed term but wields significant influence over domestic and foreign policy, military command, and federal administration.

Inside Vozneslya federation lies at least three cultures:

-Vozneska
Region: Core lands of the federation, central and fertile regions
Lifestyle: Diverse, urbanized, administrative and cultural heart
Society and Culture:
• The Vozneska represent the core culture of the federation, embodying its political, economic, and cultural center. They are a diverse people, blending traditions from various ethnic groups within the federation.
• Their society is highly organized, with a strong emphasis on governance, education, arts, and commerce. Cities in Vozneska are bustling hubs of trade, administration, and culture.
• Vozneska culture values progress, unity, and federal identity, promoting a shared language and customs while respecting regional diversity.
• They are known for their skilled artisans, scholars, and diplomats, as well as their role in maintaining the federation’s institutions.
• Their architecture ranges from grand federal buildings and cathedrals to vibrant marketplaces and residential quarters, reflecting a blend of tradition and innovation.

In the map Vozneska is represented as Vozneslya culture. Various human provinces that are united by Emperor/Vozhd during ages of various conflicts and political changes.

-Koshani
Region: Northeastern lands, coastal and riverine areas
Species: Catfolk (anthropomorphic feline people)
Lifestyle: Fishing and seafaring kingdom
Society and Culture:
• The Koshani are a proud and agile catfolk people, renowned as the greatest fishers and seafarers in Vozneslya. Their kingdom is built around rich fishing grounds, estuaries, and coastal waters.
• Their society is organized into clans and guilds, with fishing and boat-building guilds holding significant influence.
• Koshani culture celebrates agility, cunning, and community cooperation. Festivals often revolve around the sea, harvests, and lunar cycles.
• Their architecture incorporates natural materials and is adapted to coastal environments, with stilted houses and floating markets.
• Koshani are skilled navigators and traders, maintaining extensive maritime networks. Their ships are swift and nimble, reflecting their feline grace.

Koshani are humans that have been shapeshifted by thousands-year bonds with spirits that live in northern forests at Oceqrad and Eurula-Yasari. After millenias of habitation, establishment and evolution Koshani soon expanded its domain beyond woods to steppes of west and woods of east. That's how catfolk encountered ancient Vozneska and Polevi. Sometimes it turns into military conflicts, sometimes - into profitable and long-term trading.
Meanwhile Koshani began to master navigation and shipbuilding. Their boats sailed along the coasts and rivers before the unification wars and the formation of not only Vozneslya federation, but even a bunch of disparate kingdoms at pre-Imperial period.

Before the great unification war at Imperial age Koshani have built its own kingdom - Boyu Koshan Kralligi. Kralligi have rivaled to human kingdoms and tribes of eastern Kestamilja to control north eastern sea and trade routes on it. The catfolk became renown and infamous as vicious and feral pirates among traders and travelers of Kestamilja, Erriovala and Humanierra. At some time Koshani have reigned at Voito island.

Boyu Koshan Kralligi had a long-time rivalry not only to northern coastal states but also to neighboring human countries: Vozneska empire at south, and Polevi nomadic alliance at west. After long and exhausting war Vozneska was finally crumbled Kosheni kingdom and integrated it into own structure.

-----

-Polevi
Region: Northern and Western steppes, cold and hot deserts
Lifestyle: Nomadic warrior culture
Society and Culture:
• The Polevi are master horsemen and cavalry warriors, famed across the continent for their swift and deadly mounted raids. Their nomadic lifestyle revolves around herding, hunting, and seasonal migrations across the vast steppes and deserts.
• Their social structure is clan-based, with strong loyalty to chieftains and war leaders. Oral traditions, epic poetry, and horsemanship are central to their identity.
• They wear practical, durable clothing suited for harsh climates, often adorned with symbols representing their clan and personal achievements in battle.
• The Polevi value honor, bravery, and freedom, with a warrior code that governs conduct in war and peace.
• Their weaponry includes composite bows, curved sabers, and lances, optimized for mounted combat.

Polevi is quite mixed culture. Various nomadic human tribes that have often encountered islanders and traveling people of neighboring cultures. After decades and hundreds of years these tribes have adapted to western deserts and claimed almost all northern steppes. They had no centralized government, and because of that some of Polevi clans were retreated from coming stronger Koshani. At that point a long-term rivalry began.

Before unification war Polevi was unified into Polevi-Ordu that claimed entire north-western part of the continent. At that unification war Polevi-Ordu was allied to Vozneslya/Vozneska empire to defeat Boyu Koshan Kralligi because normally Koshani are stronger and agile than average human. However, after the Kralligi's fall Polevi-Ordu was forced to surrender and integrate into now-dominant Vozneslya country.

Vozneslya Religion:

Due to large territories Vozneslya has many religious organizations and cults.
The core Vozneslya religion is Auroran Faith. It's a large cult based on worshipping to Sun God and his endless Ascensions and Descents. This is government-supported religion as Ascension concept became part of Vozneslya ideology. But not everywhere.

Southern parts of federation (Skreport, far provinces on Dead South, Chernovka, Teploberezha, Novoyuzhie) are practicing Rivendell Faith. It's not about worshipping to a concrete deity, but entire philosophy about self-improving by meditations.

Southern-western provinces like Istrovo, Kladorechensk and Kamnedar are having Isendril Faith. Its population is partially related to now-defunct Isendryl empire (currently Norsudon & Bogustavek theocracies): somewhere are refugees, somewhere are exiles. Some have converted by traveling priests of Isendryl because the empire has plans to colonize Vozneslya.

Koshani and Polevi are having Seraphic Faith. Although they are under rule of the Vozhd they still preserving their spiritic cults. Koshani preserving their Seraphic Faith to keep their magical bonds to forest and sea spirits. Polevi venerate winds because they are living in steppes, savannas and deserts. Ancestor spirit cults are common after many years of unification wars.
