AOD Lore: Sanctima & Argotyr
Sanctima (Humanierra)

Overview:
Sanctima is an ancient and vast union of human kingdoms, duchies, and free cities, united under the spiritual and political authority of the Holy Voice—an archpriest or archpriestess who resides in the grand capital city of Sacralania. The Holy Voice leads monotheistic religion (Isendril Faith) that venerates Torlage, - omnimount deity that embodies light, justice, and three principles: truth, love and courage. This faith is the spiritual glue holding the diverse realms together.

Government & Society:
Sanctima’s political structure is a complex federation of kingdoms, republics, and duchies, each ruled by kings, queens, or elected magistrates who swear fealty to the Holy Voice. The federation balances local autonomy with centralized religious authority. Due to that, the Holy Voice governs over entire federation while province governments are claimed by nobles.

The favored governments are federations, kingdoms, and republics, reflecting a pragmatic blend of tradition and civic participation.

Economy & Military:
Sanctima’s economy thrives on the sustainable development of its rich and varied provinces. The land yields berries, mushrooms, herbs, furs, and iron, which fuel both trade and military production. The army is predominantly infantry-based, with soldiers inspired and blessed by priests and supported by mages who wield divine magic. Cavalry is rare but highly trained. The military doctrine emphasizes discipline, faith, and tactical flexibility, prepared to defend against any declared “unholy” enemies as decreed by the Holy Voice.

The military elite are Virtue knights, - warrior monks that following principles based on virtues: Truth, Love and Courage. Knights are divided by three virtue orders, each of them are based on provinces far from the current capital (Sacralania):

-Order of Truth, glorious protectors of Holyness, is located at Havenport and Honourkeep;
-Order of Love, passionate defenders of Purity and Sacralania, is quartered at Averoun and Eastport;
-Order of Courage, the vanguard against Argotyr, is fortified at Bellsummit and Potterni.

Culture & Language:
The culture is a rich tapestry woven from various European linguistic and cultural threads, primarily Italian and English influences, but with a distinct fantasy flavor. Names often combine familiar European roots with evocative fantasy elements, creating a sense of both familiarity and otherworldliness.

Argotyr empire (Demonicana)
Overview:
Argotyr is a vast and fearsome empire founded by demons from the Outside, who invaded the world in the Old Days and struck first at Sanctima. Though initially overwhelming, the forces of Argotyr have since settled into a tense equilibrium with their human neighbors. The empire is ruled by a rigid hierarchy of demon lords and their mortal subordinates, all united under the worship of the Almighty Lord, a powerful deity of monotheistic religions (Isendril Faith) but seen as a fallen god whose descendants are destined to rule mankind.

Government & Society:
Argotyr is a totalitarian empire governed by a theocratic monarchy. The demon lords, known as the Goetian Lords, are venerated as heroes and founders of the empire, embodying wisdom, cunning, and ruthless violence. The empire rejects federations and republics, viewing them as chaotic and weak. Instead, it embraces strict hierarchy and centralized control.

Economy & Military:
The economy is primarily agricultural, adapted to survive and thrive in harsh climates. While Argotyra’s people engage in trade, hunting, fishing, and sailing, their focus remains on developing and securing their claimed territories. The military is composed of fearsome demon warriors, each a serious threat on the battlefield, supported by dark magic and arcane secrets. Despite their hostility, demons maintain diplomatic communication with other nations. Although they regard non-demons as inferior at least.

Culture & Religion:
Argotyr’s culture revolves around the cults of the Goetian Lords, demon heroes who forged the empire. Their names and provinces are drawn from the Ars Goetia demonology, lending a dark and exotic flavor. The religion is a twisted mirror of the Sanctima's monotheistic faith (Isendril Faith), emphasizing domination, cunning, and the divine right of demons to rule.

At claimed human territories Argotyr is also spreading paganistic "Lordic cult". The cult declares that Goetian Lords are deities that control nature. Moreover they are direct ambassadors of Almighty's will. That is not conflicting to Sanctima's monotheistic faith and strengthens demonic rule.

Sample province names:
• Abyssa-media
• Pantano-Porto
• Punichar (from “terra da punição” — Land of Punishment)
• Vassago-Costa
• Furfurida
• Mina-Infernali
• Luciferia
• Stolasport
• Forcas-de-Rivera
