Odd S9: Season 9 Gameplay Collection
My conclusions after months of playtime
This modlist is not really enjoyable. I am watching Odd's playthrough of S9 and wanted to try it for myself. I've made a handful of really solid attempts, making it to Predator Armor and Plasma Weapons a couple of times, and Warden Armor most recently. The issue I ran into is that SITREPS are extremely unclear, status effects and skills are not clearly described (DOT anyone?), and the Requiem units far outscale XCOM at a given force level. I have been extremely cautious to protect my force level, yet I was presented with the Orbital Fortress SITREP on a crucial Dark Event counter (Made Whole) that killed my top squad. I had never encountered Orbital Fortress, so I didn't know what to expect. Spoiler: it will spawn a pile of units and turrets not seen at your force level that are likely unkillable unless you happened to bring the right set of skills and gear. I believe I've played this modlist long enough to understand scamper mechanics, reactions, class skills, and so on. I've successfully captured some of the best EXALT I've faced. I've beaten impossible odds in all sorts of missions and walked away with my squad intact. I shouldn't be punished so hard for a modder's desire to hold back this new challenge I'm going to face as some kind of easter egg. There is precious little information available (believe me, I googled the SITREP before taking the mission), and that's just not how I like to play games. I like to be presented with a difficult challenge I understand.

The Legate is just......really? I'm glad to see some sort of nerf in the recent patch notes but it's still nearly impossible to kill unless you are geared for it. Which, hint-hint, you can't do in the mid-game if the Shadow Chamber doesn't say you'll see it due to some SITREP or reinforcement pod spawning it in.

I think this modlist was balanced and tweaked along the way during Odd's playthrough to be more difficult than when he began. It makes the early-mid game almost impossible.

After 100-200 hours with a single campaign down the drain, and countless others with reasonably good attempts also defeated, I'm drained. You did it, Reshi. You beat me.

yeah, this modlist is brutal. Engenier + Chemthrower in your squad deals with Legate quite good since Legate take Damge over time (bleed, bloodcurse, burn) everytime they are hit and Arc Thrower stuns are 4 actions and stun for their complete turn. Middle of the pack soldier can't really hold up anymore in late game so getting the GTS to get better option is a must have. My first round (that is still ongoing) could not be played as Ironman or Honestman I needed to much information to even handle the later enemys but I have high hopes for the second round
