Historic Hellenistic World

2)Battle mechanics
2) Battle mechanics have been reworked.Fistly let me say for those who do not know that attack value is not damage but chane to hit. Also defence is chance to block.I reworked almost every single unit of the Hellenistic world accordingly to its armor type and fighting style. So by comparing Games vanilla values for the various units I made some modifications. Thus spears and especially hoplites are still better in defense while swords are better in offence. The change is that I took under consideration armament. So lightly armored troops have greater values than heavily armored due to increased mobility. The moment though a light unit gets a hit it is far more vulnerable than a heavily armored one.Of course experience and training play a role so citizen hoplites although dressed in clothes are far less capable in defense than Royal Spartans dressed in bronze thorax.Armour though plays a role for same unit types and homoioi Spartans (Spartan phalanx) have better attack and defence chance than heavy Heroes of Sparta but as I explained earlier the Royal Spartan may accept slightly more hits but can withstand greater amount of damage .I would like to make defense values for swords better.I mean if a hoplite has a defence of 34 a pleltast that is lighter and has more mobility should have more.Unfortunately, in the game, decent sword units have a defense value that starts around 10 so I was forced to make peltasts have lower values not to break the balance of the game. There is a uniformed way the game visualizes each group now and every type has a significant role to play.Which types are there?
In short 1)Pikes 2)dated hoplites 3)modern hoplites 4)Iphicratean hoplites/peltasts5)pelltasts6)cavalry (missile,melee,shock)7)light missiles8)Siege.
Each unit type’s weight reflects its movement, turning speed and mass.Very heavy pikes are death machines but so slow that must be handled carefully and with heavy flank support. If you change directions often and charge a unit this heavy they loose formation. Also Don’t wait the last moment to put them in phalanx they are slow and the enemy may reach close enough and then is game over.Hoplites in hoplite phalanx they tire more easily and their stats drop slowly due to tiredness. Keep fresh troops nearby.Pikes especially those with pike shields have very low defense value to represent their inability to fight in close quarters.Hoplites are 1)the heavy type of some elite units2) the old type with linothorax and 3)modern types with smaller shields but heavier chain mails.Modern hoplitres generally move more fast ,attack better but defend worse.Iphicratean units are very strategic hold flanks attack in range and have guerilla deployment ability to deploy beyond your predetermined space. Those were the ancient time “commandoes”.Cavalry has changed its weight and speed accordingly. Also Scythian,Parthian,Numidian,Iberian horses are faster than other nations. Finally as mentioned above for ranged troops there are slingers that fire longer cause more damage but they are less accurate, archers that can fight behind your lines and javelinmen of three types1) light who do less damage but are fast,2)peltasts with ancyle javs that have great range and damage and can hold a sword if they have to but reload more slowly and3) Iphicratean troops as mentioned above with low ammo and shor range but Pike wall ability.Arrows do less AP damage slings more and javs even more.Slings hold more ammo archers are in the middle and javelin men in the bottom.

I am really interested in your mod, it sounds great and I love the more historic way of representing the units that did not have use swords(mostly Greeks).
But I do have a question. You mention that pikemen are killing machines. Why so? They were meant to hold and push, but killing someone with a 20 foot stick and little mobility would have been very difficult. I personally do not believe Pikemen were ever very lethal, just very stable and durable.

It is a way to speak..Look experimental archaeology has shows what you asy it is true.Pikes if the phalanx is stationary the only push back and they kill very hard. When the Phalanx is moving though the weight makes them lethal. In game sadly you cannot attack while moving forward. So they have to fight stationary. And if they dont kill at all they are junk.So what i wrote means that because off their length they keep units away and killing them slowly (not too slow because the game lasts way too short in comparison of a true battle. So one should upgrate their killing potential somewhat.)).If attacked in front the pikes kill but theyare waaaay too slow. if they are surrounded they get slaughtered... (and they get surrounded easily)

I would also like to add that pikes were a but cumbersome, but they were also working like a shredder, if someone passed the first line of pikes, he would have to deal with a second, then a third, meaning he would be between spears, thus lower mobility. Plus most greeks before the sarissa of the Macedonian armies had a lot shorter spears, they used to pretty much harpoon their enemies over their shoulders. That was a killing machine for the then world, because they were heavilly armored, mobile (considering their weight) and their spears enabled for precise strikes over the shield. On top of that, hoplites carried a short sword that they used when, or if their spear was broken or was of no use, which meant they could easilly dominate most if not all ancient era soldiers in melee. The fact that Greek soldiers prior to the sarissa not only held, but achieved crushing victories against the Persian empire (which was the strongest empire in terms of military in the then known world) and the fact that Alexander almost concquered the entire known world then are proof enough
