This mod is the best mod in the game.

I cannot thank you enough.

this basically fixed hoplite issues, and it feels so much better, not to mention the historic accuracy is the best i've seen. :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:

The one thing a professional soldier doesnt do is fight barefoot. "Spartans fought barefoot when on hoplite phalanx because that seemed to improve stability" this is among the dumbest myths bad and lying historians love to propagate about Spartans. Fighting barefoot in a heavy close combat unit is suicide. Especially in a phalanx where you need grip, theyd have worn a soldiers boot, much like the romans and other greeks, that was hobnailed or well rough worn. You cut your feet, get crushed, slip in mud etc... you are dead. The only units that would be barefoot, would be helots or light skirmishing troops, maybe not even then.

they are as strong as they were roughly..Still not supermen.. XD.Don;t forget that in this time frame they were in decline..But actualy you can check the stats.

are spartan hoplites actually strong for 6oo denaries? or are weaker than regular hoplites?

oh ok so this mod and your newer mod makes the game werid when activated together. never mind the phalanx. oh i meant rout. the spartans would rout that were from your newer mod.

help? hippeus spartans only have those phalanx you show on your pictures. and spartan hoplites run as soon as the fight starts why??

Sorry for the delay guys i was away for a few days..
If you like this detail wait to see the Greeks at War project that's beein constructed.. (check TWC in hosted mod section).For the graphical fixes i am still facing some troubles but hopefully will find a way to get it going again..

And if I may ask, would it be historical accurate or even possible to add greaves to Thureos Spears and Agrianian Akontistai.....or something at least....the skinny look of the soldiers' feet of this kind really make me sick. Thanks for your great work again....:D

I think there is a bug with the mod manager and mods with capital letters in the title for patch 17 beta.I wait a bit for CA to fix it because it plans also some other changes and will get back to you shortly

It should be great to expand the idea, and make compatible for the huge dei community, i wish i could give you my help, but I dont know how does it work...Classical age did it for the Iphikrates hoplitai, symmachoi hoplitai, katoikoi phalangitai ect. Is it hard to do that? For a beginer modder?

I guess you have a point for this version of hoplites.Here i use lanced to picture the length increase happened during Hellenistic era as described by Diodorus and others..In PP mod the hoplites have the classic short spears and rown behind behave more naturaly even aestheticaly.Take a look sor some pics if you like there..I promise to look opn it though.(but it may take some time,..)

It´s for aesthetical reasons, with the longer spears the second row could fight, but firstly they just don´t and secondly they pike the front row whilst doing nothing, if they held their spears up high, it would look so much more pleasing^^ Hate all the clipping^^
Btw, if i were you, I´d change unit spacings for the hoplites, it looks so much better, i tried it out

Why would you want to do that? Hoplites second row fought also.Ok not the third but the secondary line fought.Also it is really painfull job to temper animation and right now i really have my hands so full i dont even have time for simple db editing regarding my new mod release.And above this i also have some tasks for VV plus real life of 12 working hours and a family back home..Boy...I promise to take a look into it though after release of Greeks at war http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?681759-Greeks-at-War

could you upload a version of your mod where the hoplites in second to third rank have their spears lifted? AFAI have gathered you combined both hoplite animation with pike formation behavior, and I´ve seen a mod that changes which rank holds their pike in what way... I just absolutely have no idea how to change it myself, or I´d have done it myself^^

it's a pretty good mod, exept I am still rather deceived by the pikemen phalanx. I mean think about it : a pikemen formatio was more or less twice as tight as a cohort legionnaire formation. Which means a random legionnaire had to face 2 columns of 5 sarissas, 10 sarissas at the same time to finally manage to face on opponent.
The romans tried to go in between the sarissas but were totally massacred. Even they couldn't defeat a phalanx. I think you should just drastically increase the melee attack rate bonus that pikemen have in phalanx formation, and decrese the melee damage. They'll keep pushing back their opponents but will kill them slowly. That'll still leave their opponents the time to surround them, as on face to face they were IN VIN CI BLE

That's what we can hope for I think. You made skirmishers like Thureos Spears and Agrianian Axemen valuable allies with this mod. I can do everything with them :D

the Phalanx system is practicaly the same.You dont get the same visuals because in this mod the hoplites got the old shields.I will try to change them to the new type to get this locked-shield appearance

yup you are right but in many cases this time (Hellenistic era) there are reports (from Diodorus for example) that after Iphicrates influence all spears were increased much (more than 2/3 of original length) in size and also the swords were doubled in length.If you check the note in the pics 3rd from last you will see some note on length

I think the spears for the spear units are too long cuz the hoplites(in real life) used 7 to 8 feet spears but the ones you are using are like 10 to 12 feet.

For your new mod would you be able to increase garrison size (drasticaly) for the Capital cities i think it would stop Athens and other capitals from getting taken to early on in the campaign. im thinking a mix of high level troops ex. picked hoplites say 3 and 17 mixed units... maybe its not historical that they would have this size a garrison but nor is it historical that athens loses it capital in the second year to thebes or corinth... just a thaught

Yes. I was able to go and see places all over the world I would never have had the chance to other wise. I was fortunate enough to see Greece and all the countries around the Meditteranean. Was really exciting for me because I love History and was able to see the places as a kid I only read about.

I really like this mod! not too sure I like the 4 turns to recruit yet though. But, that does make you plan a bit better. Also I like how difficult attacking an enemy unit while using the fortifcation is now. Got butt whacked by not using more distance units. So, thanks for this...also, you are welcome. I served on the Saratoga so that is how I know that.
