Mount & Blade: Warband

The Last Days of the Third Age
A Thank You to the Devs and Community + a Few Questions
Hello everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to the entire development team for all the passion and effort you’ve poured into this mod. This was the very first Mount & Blade: Warband mod I ever played, and I was so excited back then that I went and bought the original game just so I could experience this mod. To this day, it remains in my top three favorite mods of all time, and I always find myself coming back to it every year.

I’ve been playing for about 6–7 years now, and I can honestly say I’ll never stop. The work you’ve done is incredible, and I truly admire and appreciate the dedication behind it. You’re an amazing team, and I love what you’ve created. I also want to thank the community — it’s wonderful to see so many people supporting the project and keeping the world alive.

I’ve noticed the changes over the years, and I really love how the towns now feel full of life. Exploring every corner for items, weapons, or scraps of metal is exciting, and it feels rewarding. There are still a few things I haven’t quite figured out yet, so I’d like to ask some humble questions:

Legendary Places: I know there are four of them. Is accessing them only possible through the mod settings, or is there another way to unlock them in-game?
- Mirkwood Spider Lair: I burned it down — is that all there is to do there, or is there more hidden content?
- Statue of the Two Gondorian Soldiers: I’ve only found food so far. Are there any secret items at that location?
- Dead Marshes: Are there special items to be found here, or is it more of a lore-related area?

Traits: How many traits are currently in the game, how are they obtained, and what kinds of bonuses do they provide?

Unique Gear: Besides the Ent Water, what other special weapons, armor, or items can be discovered or obtained?

Quests: Are there any unique or hidden quests outside of those given by faction leaders or vassals?

If there are any other secrets, unique mechanics, or special places worth exploring, I would really love to know. Fully uncovering everything this mod has to offer is one of my favorite parts of the journey.

Once again, thank you so much to both the dev team and the community. You’ve built something truly special, and I’m grateful to be part of it.

I'll share what I know. Full disclosure I did a very tiny bit of work on this mod: I was the writer of some of the flavor text. All those Rohan horse jokes? Yup. The "Bring Me 8 Sumpter Horses, He Says," is a very outdated joke combining a much-hated quest from the original M&B with the prevalence of players eating captured horses, also from the original M&B. Newer players won't get the joke.

Now for what I know, which is very little: most of the geographic locations give xp for visiting, and the descriptive prose and unique artwork are the point.
The Ent Water is 1 of only 2 true "quest locations" that I know of, although there may be more. The other quest location I know about is Moria, which you should definitely explore before one of the northern armies burns it out.
There are other unique locations where battles take place, but those are part of MQ plotlines, like the siege of Isengard happening at its corresponding unique location, so I don't count those.

In addition to the unique locations there are some special quests you can get from various leaders which will spawn special locations, like "Kill the Evil Necromancer" which spawns a unique lair and so forth. Those are a lot of fun and a change of pace from the usual chasing around the map.

I honestly didn’t know you could explore Moria as a good faction, I’ll definitely try that in my next playthrough. To be fair, I usually play on the good side (though I’ve done a few evil runs), and most of the time I just focus on the war against my faction’s enemies. Because of that, I never really came across quests like kill the evil necromancer, this is actually the first time I’ve heard of it. Same with the golden spear quest, if I’m not mistaken? Never seen or heard of it before. I guess there are a lot of unique things tied to both the good and evil paths, but they probably take a lot of time and a bit of luck to discover, which makes them feel even more rare and special.

In my next run, I want to delay the war as much as possible so I can explore more of the map, hunt for special items (I even heard something about a “Book of Moria” somewhere on the forums?), and build up relations with allied factions. That’s why I really appreciate finding out about these quests I’ve missed and it gives me the chance to dive deeper and really experience each city, since the game world feels so alive. Thanks a lot for the reply and for sharing this information!

I’d also really appreciate learning more interesting details about both the good and evil sides, and would be most grateful for any tips anyone can share!
