Defense Siege AI in General
First off brilliant mod. Deep into it but big problem -trying to defend Gondor Castles and even when we have more defensive numbers -the enemy breaks the door day very, very easily so there is no prolonged Archer defense as usual. The way the friendly defensive AI are positioned they are kinda scattered so that when the Orcs barge thru they just steamroll every point and spawn point without really any defense at all.

I think the castle doors need to be much stronger -over in matter of seconds. The Archer nee better firing positions as they barely make a dent in enemy numbers. This was a 300 invader vs 350 defense -ive noticed this mostly in Gondor (not Minas Tirith)

So ive just defended Minas Tirith and its literally a Sally out battle. Theres no Archer defense or really any defensive advantage at all -just a field battle - is this right?

Sorry, I have literally no clue what you're talking about. Minas Tirith is definitely not a field battle. Please be much more specific about the nature of the problem (do troops just charge out of the gate? Do archers leave their positions?), which towns exactly you mean, post screenshots, specify where you downloaded the mod, etc.

Since it sounds like defending Gondor is too hard for you, please also check your campaign difficulty setting.

This is so strange - yes so Minas Tirith was under Siege and when I jumped in (450 defenders/300) attackers, i spawned directly where door should be but it look more like destruction models. Is it possible that the door was already breaded prior to me getting there -as it was literally just wide open. Worse then that though was that there were literally zero Archers on the walls of minas tirith for that outside field fight.

So you're saying - there wasnt even an outside area built for fighting? how is that possible -its literally just like a flat square pretty empty place (hard to tell cause it was night). I am using the Movie Overhaul addon mod 1.83 - that apparently makes the units looks more like the movie-is it possible they also changed Siege Scenes?

Honestly i was so disappointed as Minas Tirith looks absolutely stunning to walk around - and i thought any battle there would involved the high levels, inner circles and structures of the White City

So be to specific -there was no front door present. AI troops just charged out front and met the enemy on a pretty basic space, i saw no archers literally placed anywheres on any part of the stucture. there were no Archer kills to start the siege as is per usual.

Ive noticed a few Gondor cities didnt have a starting castle door and people just kinda either meet at the doorway area to clash , wait for them to come in or they run out themselves. Elvish cities always function perfectly. The real problem is Gondor gets no advantage at all with being the defender, at Minas Tirith we outnumbered the enemy yet took larger losses

The mod is brilliant overall and im only complaining because im consumed by it -i never thought id go back to a warband game.

Edit: Also if you look at the 2nd to last comment on the Comments section of this mod you'll see someone else agree about "fighting out front of Minas Tirith no being their Favorite either" -so its not just me seeing this

If you're talking about "TLD Overhaul" - that's a submod made by a seperate modder. It's based on an ancient, less polished version of TLD, and also to my knowledge severely shifts the game balance. So if you want to complain about that, you should probably do so on their page, not ours.

I can confirm Minas Tirith: You spawn in the courtyard behind the main gate. The main gate is already breached and the enemies come swarming in. The defenders are placed in fixed positions (did not charge out though). I was glad we were outnumbering them, no chance of holding otherwise.


While we are at it: Tarnost (could also have been Linhir, not sure) needs some attention. The defending archers up on the wall are focused on the enemies at the gate underneath them, which they can not reach. They just stand there doing nothing. And since they have no cover to speak of (please add crenellations), they just get mowed down by the attacking archers outside.

Sure ill start a new game if what you say is true -using purely latest TLD. Ive just invested alot of time in it and im pretty sure im using the latest TLD version alongside Overhaul which seems to merely replace unit models to closer represent the movie.

And it seems the guy below posted exactly what I experienced - that is Main Door starts off as breeched and the fight is all in a flat open space -no advantage to Defenders.

Spent alot of time trying to defend Gondor and what he said about Tarnost was same as my experience -there are a few places in siege defense where archers dont have a proper firing position and Defense seems lacking

Edit: Just checked and my TLD is version 3.6 alongside the Nightly patch which was just released
