Texture glitch which prevents me from saving on mac
Hey guys, abit late to the party i know, but i found this mod a couple of weeks ago and im really enjoying it. I am experiencing some issues on mac though (shock). Basically, im encountering an error which prevents me from saving my game. Im not sure what the cause is but its usually after a battle. After the textures on the campgain map goes all black as well as any items i can loot from the last battle. After this occurs i can still play, but im ubable to save my game making progress pretty hard. i have tried to combat this error by just saving after everything i do, but now im later on in the game and the battles are more frequent it happens pretty much every big battle i do. I have had a look around reddit to see if i could find anyone with the same problem, but have not as of yet. Are you lot still working on this? would appreciate if i could have some help, but if not no worries.

Yeah, we're aware, but we haven't been able to find out if it's related to a Warband bug or a TLD bug.
Since we don't have a Mac for testing, we need to rely on mac players to do the necessary backward testing for us (i.e. find the last version that did not cause the bug and the first version that introduced it.) So far, noone has answered our calls. :(

Maybe try an unpatched 3.6 base version first.
If the base 3.6 does have the bug, you'll need to install 3.5 separately. For 3.5, it might be enough to focus on 2020 versions (~ r3070 and onwards).

Remember, for regression testing you don't need to test every version. Find a version without the bug, then find a version with the bug, then test a version that's approximately in the middle, and so on.

Also mind that saves aren't backwards compatible. So I would advise to create a save with an earlier version, and use copies of that save for testing. You can use cheats to increase your level and start the war on the new testing save.

just to mention, I played 3.5 on mac and had the same problem. It's a really good game mod, but I have to reopen it like every 15 minutes.
Besides, the problem does not happen in the early days (before the war starts), and begins to happen after the war starts, and always happens after a fight.

I've been able to replicate this bug consistently and have a somewhat-reliable workaround. Whenever you fight a named npc or assault a fortress, finishing the battle will lead to all textures and meshes being swapped with each other and the terrain texture going black. Trying to save at this point will result in an error with a message that the ai was un able to locate the npc you just killed. Going into your party and upgrading your units before saving will allow you to save 9 times out of 10, but you'll still need to relaunch the game to get the meshes back in order. If there's any more info I can give, i'd be glad to.

To note, the bug goes back to at least the version that was out in March of 2020, as thats when I downloaded the mod to begin with.

There's that workaround above. Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of time for modding M&B so far.
For those who are also subscribed to this, it looks like the most recent build has fixed this known issue:

Fixes

Fix the black screens on macOS and Linux, where after playing for a while textures would corrupt and the player would be unable to load or save their progress, forcing a game restart.
This was caused by the game ending up having too many opened files because it forgets to close the streamed sounds after reading them, reaching the OS limit.
