Kenshi
Lore Friendly Role-Playing Experience v1.9.7.2.1 (2025)
minor nitpick/opinion thread
escort mission: breaks parts of the main game such as caravan and patrol behavior

hard labor uses strength: labor skill becomes useless, the actual mining becomes much slower and becomes a glorified strength training dummy

lockpick away: ruins lockpicking skill progression where originally you had to find chests of a suitable level to gain progress, now you can just AFK on the first level 100 lock you can find

improved slave locks: makes all the low tier prisoner shackles and cages have the highest quality locks on the planet for no reason, only rivaled by safes in ancient laboratories, also when combined with lockpick away lets you grind lockpicking forever on what's supposed to be easy low quality locks.

no player indicators for dark ui: i don't know why this mod even exists, kenshi is a map game. you're gonna click on the map quite often to order your character where to go. so it doesn't make much sense to be unable to see where you character is on the map.

some other mods have dialogue with lots of typos.

as for more opinionated takes:
native stylize just doesn't look good, the borders on everything don't go away completely even if you turn them off, and all the other effects only serve to make the game blurry and oversaturated.
inkarnate map imo doesn't fit the game and uses a lot of free inkarnate assets. it might look pretty but it has none of the clarity that the original map has. i actually prefer the vanilla map with or without area markers/borders, one lets you know where the areas are and what they are called, while on the other hand playing with an empty/base map gives you a better sense of progression because it's gonna be completely empty (while still showing what the world looks like on a surface) from the start and you're gonna discover it as you go.

i might add more to this thread as i gain more experience with this modpack.
mods i personally added to my install (at the bottom of optional but above autogenerated patch) that directly improve the game include: sensible spider range, white gorillo fur fix, no mining node stack limit, tribal hiver face paint, clouds and wind for deadlands and the pits.

this modpack has the Item Integration patch which is listed as deprecated and the mods depending on "items integration patch" display as missing a dependency. though i'm not sure if this is the modpack creator's fault.
Community Loading Screens has a few screens that don't really fit the game (early hiver concept art) and ones that are SUPER low quality so much so that i can see the individual pixels or the fact that the images are blurred. Some of them just look plain silly or like unfinished sketches (the issue with adding limited resource concept art as images taking up the whole screen). It's a shame that the mod has any sort of discussion turned off.

there's a strange thing that happens where if you disobey your slavers and become an escaped slave, they won't always make you a slave again so they won't heal you and will instead leave you to bleed out locked to a pole. i wonder if there's a mod to fix that.
Working slave camps doesn't work, maybe because the new quarries in Rebirth are added by a mod. Their outputs are always full. The mod that increases stack limits for ores doesn't work either because of the same reason. The rebirth changes overall feel bad, guards are constantly walking around even at night and almost none of them sleep, instead choosing to be static guards and patrolling.
Dangerous Hazard Vain revert mod does not work. Rain in Vain is still acid. I'd honestly just turn off dangerous hazards, the hazards in the base game are dangerous enough.
Edit: I moved dangerous hazards and the vain revert mod to the bottom of the list and imported the game *a couple times. It works now.

I uninstalled the lockpick away mod but it still allows me to lockpick with less than 5% chance. How do i fix that?
Edit: i made my own mod to force minimum lockpick chance into 4%.

The faction "Inhuman hunters" attacked me even though i'm just a vanilla Greenlander. Paladin patrols also treat me as if i have a non-human in my party, and ask me to give them my nonexistent inhuman party members.

Thank you for all of your notes! I don't mind nitpicking at all lol, it's actually very helpful from a Player's point of view to be able to adjust this as necessary.

I'll take all of this into consideration when updating the collection, as quite a lot of things have changed since March 2025 when I updated this last.

I accidentally broke my own copy of the Items Integration Patch and never got around to fixing it until I get a chance to mess with this collection again. More Info - "Missing Mods" Discussion Thread.

For the other mods, they're all in the Optional section. Ideally, I would have this as a "Mod Organizer 2" type list (like Morrowind, Skyrim, etc.) but it's not really possible for Kenshi. We had to make due with makeshift "separators" that @Anrhaa made lol, ie. the "Optional Mods" separator towards the end of the Load Order.

I agree with Native Stylize, it's kind of not needed and it does cause a lot of repeating comments about asking how to turn it off lol. :2017stickycrab:

I'll need to adjust the load order eventually after I add and remove stuff, so I'll keep this in mind for fixing the dangerous weathers and such you mentioned above.

Thanks again, bro! If you have any other things to note, let me know! :crusader_helmet:

Question. After deleting talkative kenshi, i still get guards with blank speech boxes. How do i fix that?

I'm not sure if this is related to the problem, but i did have a hiver at one point in that playthrough, and i dismissed him to play solo.
