Implementing this fix via changing in-game materials would make the issue appear on OpenGL and possibly the Vulkan version of TF2, unless accounted for in different versions of the game either by having the materials be different or some software lighting shenanigans. I have l the Linux version of TF2 installed and ready for testing, I just don't know how to test it in-game.
