Most of the coding for the Mesopotamian religious societies has been completed. The four new societies are: The Followers of Anu, a monastic order; The Keepers of the Old Way/Brotherhood of the Anunnaki, a secret cult for unreformed and reformed Mesopotamians respectively; the Sons of Nergal, a demon worshipper cult; and the Disciples of Ashur, a Warrior Society. The Sons of Nergal will also be formable for anyone of Assyrian, Chaldean, or Aramaean Culture, and I'm currently working on giving high-ranking followers of the god of war and disease the power to unleash a unique plague upon their foes.
I have decided to move the three new cultures into their own culture group to make it compatible with some other mods I have been working on in my spare time, such as a cultural retinue and buildings expansion pack.
Once I finish this update, I'll be working on new mods and versions 2.5 and 3.0 of Mesopotamia Reborn. But one of the mods that is in the pre-production phase, Princes of Egypt, will be part of a future mod bundle with Mesopotamia Reborn, called the "Near East Expansion Pack".
Princes of Egypt will feature a new culture group for Copts, which will be divided into Sahidic and Bohairic to represent the two major Coptic dialects, as well as new events, bloodlines, creatable titles, and more. Be on the lookout for this upcoming mod release!
I also have plans to continue the development of this mod after I have finished with other releases. I have the following additions planned for Versions 2.1 through 3.0:
- Three ancient cultures formable through special events and decisions: Sumerian, Akkadian, and Babylonian.
- The Bull of Heaven Event Chain, inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh.
- Tigris and Euphrates flooding events.
- Sons of Nergal Improvements.
- ...and much more!
- New Oriental Christian sects. Miaphysitism will be further subdivided into the Apostolic Church in Armenia. The Maronite Church of Lebanon will also be added to the map.
- The Order of Saint Paul will be replaced by the Order of Saint Ephraim, based on one of the actual monastic orders o the Syriac Orthodox Church.
- New holy orders are slated for the next update, including a Mesopotamian holy order. After watching the Apostolic Armenians get annihilated and completely wiped from the map multiple times by Arabs and Turks, I now understand just how vital they are to the survival of anyone within earshot of the Abbasids, and how useful they are for large, unwieldy empires in the early game.
