@Slaveishpolecat and others have you tried these from the FAQ.
When I try to start a new campaign the game crashes when loading!
To fix this you must change your Advanced Graphics Settings so Unit Variation is activated.

When I try to start a new campaign the game sends me back to the main menu!
To fix this you must change ALL campaign settings to 'remastered'. If you are unable to do this within the mod; launch the vanilla game, change the settings there, and then relaunch the mod.

Yeap, it should be unit variation on (and don't change your graphics setting after!)

Haven't fixed issues for me. Is there a way to get any info on the crash? maybe i could pinpoint the problem.

Most important logs are message_log.txt and scripting_log.txt.
