Crusader Kings III

Somewhat More Historical Norse Paganism [SwMHNP] 1.12+
Folkvang  [udvikler] 19. mar. 2021 kl. 0:44
Planned Changes for 1.1 and 1.2 [In Development]
Ver 1.1 (ETA: 22 March)
* Bugfix: You should now be able to get Berserker events without the Warmonger Tenet. This now only requires you to be part of the Norse faith group, and NOT have any the following Doctrines: Christian Syncretism, Gnosticism, Eastern Syncretism, Islamic Syncretism, Jewish Syncretism, Pacifism
* Virtues and Sins: Added Diligent as a virtue and Lazy as a sin. Boastful, Arrogant kings are only seen as virtuous if they can back up their words with action. A hound that is all bark and no bite should be put down. This brings the total number of virtues and sins up to 5 each, which is in line with vanilla Catholicism and I don't believe is too bloated.
* Doctrines: Witchcraft is now considered Shunned, not Criminal.

Ver 1.2 (ETA: 29 March)
* Removed Communal Identity Tenet.
* Modified the Mendicant Preachers Tenet (now increases Diplomatic Range instead of County Conversion Speed).
* Added Cultural Ties as a new Doctrine category. All religions will now be either Communal, Universal, or Proselytizing.
* Communal religions (most Pagan, Jewish, and Hindu faiths) get the bonuses from the vanilla Communal Identity Tenet.
* Proselytizing religions (most Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist faiths) get a bonus to County Conversion Speed across the board that is lower than the same culture group bonus from Communal Identity, as well as a small boost to same faith opinion and a small penalty to all other faiths opinion.
* Most faiths not listed above are Universal, which are a middle ground between the two. Currently, they get a small bonus to popular opinion in wrong faith counties.
* This doctrine may be changed like any other when reforming your religion.
* Religions that previously had Communal Identity will receive a new Tenet to replace it.
* New Doctrines: Male Witchcraft and Female Witchcraft. Norse pagans consider Female Witchcraft to be Shunned and Male Witchcraft to be Criminal. All other religions treat male and female Witches the same. (Doing research on other historical religions is outside the scope of this mod.)

Since I have not seen you say anything specific regarding this, what is your consideration on the ''pursuit of glory'' discussion?

I'm not against adding a new tenet, but I think it would need to be for something more than just removing Content from being a sin because it's more work than just copy/pasting code.

An idea for the future: Update the Holy Sites to be more in line with actual traditional holy places. (I am looking at you York and Kiev. Maybe Rejkjavík, Skåne/Sjælland as replacement?)
Kikko 20. mar. 2021 kl. 10:06
Yeah i agree, York and Kiev really shoulnd't be holy sites. Maybe either change it to Roskilde or Hedeby. It makes no sense that there isn't a holy site in Denmark

Just an update to say I am no longer planning to add additional features to this mod. The current version is probably the final version, unless I run into something else that deeply annoys me and would be somewhat easy to fix.

Would you be okay if I used some of your changes as a base to make a mod where one could revive the Anglo-Saxon branch of heathenry? It might not ever happen, but it's something that I've been wanting to do for a while and might get to over the summer.

Did the holy sites get updated, or are we still stuck in this weird paderborg situation? Instead of having a place like Lejre, Gudme, Vé or some other norse world location rather than the definetly more germanic paganism location that paderborg is, plenty of places on iceland

Sure! Just make sure you credit me and link back to this mod.

I have not changed any of the holy sites.
Paderborn makes sense to me because it represents the Continental Germanic Pagans (ie: Saxons), and I think if you want to turn Asatru into a world religion, you would need to reclaim Northern Germany and expel the Catholic invaders who converted it.

The one that doesn't really make sense to me is Kyiv, and I might move it back to Denmark instead. But I also get that, gameplay-wise, if you want to have a reformed religion, they want you to have to conquer outside of Scandinavia. Otherwise you're not really a "world" religion.

This is a historical mod, and reforming the faith is ahistorical, so for now I'm going to say it's outside the scope of the mod. But I'll think about it.
