Borg strategies
I require some advice for playing as the collective, like the priority empires to target, fleet compositions and how to build an effective fleet and resource production infrastructure.

A couple of things that I have found effective:

  • Focus on assimilating other empire home worlds early to rapidly gain large numbers of pops.

  • You probably want to send out quite a few science ships to identify targets. You might even want to skip actually surveying systems with some of them, just have them roam around making first contacts - you want to know who's who around you as soon as you can.

  • Resist the temptation to use big ships at first, even though you will unlock some early - they slow your fleets down a lot and you are going to probably have to fight wars on multiple fronts. You have some very strong small ship classes and you will be able to replace your losses very quickly.

  • Either assimilate the Krenim early or be prepared for them to be a major threat later!

  • Use assimilated planets to produce your basic resources (because there will be lots of them and they have uncapped resource districts), while saving your Unicomplexes for more advanced and intangible resources.

  • Take transwarp as soon as you can, the strategic advantage of being able to move your fleets around the map quickly can be huge!

  • Don't be afraid to branch out into other weapon technologies beyond what you start with and what we see the Borg use in the show - I especially find shopping around for a couple of different torpedo types is very useful.

  • Your council is a bit restricted but your leaders are very versatile - it's probably worth going over your leader cap quite a bit, since the penalties are not too harsh.

  • Choose your traditions wisely, maybe even play out the ones you want for your playthrough early on because some of them unlock features that you might want (assimilated worlds, unicomplex expansion, I think the cityship?).

  • Beware planetary starbases... there is a known issue where, if you build them in a system with no inhabited planets, they flip to hostile control as soon as the central starbase is defeated. Don't use them to fortify uninhabited systems, even though it might be tempting!
