Borg Assimilation-Speed and Food production

I was wondering if there is a way to speed assimilation up from "just" conquering a planet and waiting (put those imperfect to other worlds?). And is there a way to get food? Had a 400 deficit once and it tanked my economy pretty badly having to buy those huge amounts of food per month.

There should be techs that speed things up for you. I'll get a Borg "farm" building added in a future patch.
