It isn't a math clue. It is an electric circuit clue. The first number represent the button. The rest of number represent which light is on or off. + is on while - is off. Example 7 +1 +4 -2 -7 mean if you press the 7th button then the 1st, and 4th light will be on while it will turn off the 2nd, and 7th light.
