1. Have you uninstalled other mods, including mods that are not coming from workshop?
2. Have you tried a different player model?
3. Have you used VRMod's older versions? Have you tried resetting its settings?
Not sure if you checked the screenshot I linked above but personally, I only have workshop mods.
Is there a complete, fool-proof guide for installing this in 2022?
Most other issues you could face are usually caused by your local problems/specifics(or the fact that VRMod is not updated since half a year already).
If you need more help with your local issues, you can check my Frequently Asked Questions thread. I've collected all of them and grouped them together, to make it easier to troubleshoot.
I'll leave you some tips, maybe they'll help:
1. You NEED to use the 64 bit version of Garry's Mod. Afaik 86(32) bit version doesn't work/doesn't have the stuff that is required for GMod to run VRMod.
2. I use x86_64 branch of GMod. That is how it works for me.(choose branches at the GMod's Beta tab)
3. VRMod doesn't work with DirectX version lower than 9. If playing GMod at DirectX version of 8 is the only way for you to have a tolerable fps, then I strongly advice against playing it in VR, anyway.
4. SteamVR must be launched BEFORE you attempt to run VRMod.
5. VRMod only works when you are already on a server.
