The Livonian Brothers of the Sword(also known as just the Sword Brethren; founded in 1202 AD), Knights of Santiago(Order of Santiago; founded in 1160-61 AD), the Order of Dobrzyn(founded in 1222 AD), the Holy Sepulchre Order(founded in 1099 AD), the Order of St. Lazarus(founded in 1098 AD) and the Order of Aviz(founded in 1146 AD).
The Order of Calatrava(founded in 1158 AD), the Order of Alcantara(founded in 1154-56 AD; not recognized until 1177 by Pope Alexander III), the Order of Mountjoy(founded in 1180 AD), the Order of Montesa(founded in 1317 AD), the Order of the Crusaders of the Red Star(founding not entirely clear, but it seems to have been founded in 1233 AD), the Order of the Militia of Jesus Christ(founded in 1233 AD), the Order of Christ(founded in 1318-19 AD), the Order of the Knights of St. Thomas Acon(founded in 1191 AD), the Order of St. Mary(founded in 1261 AD) and the Order of the Dragon(founded in 1408 AD).
The Order of Saint James(the full name of the knightly order is the Order of Saint James of Altopascio, which was founded in between 1070 and 1080 AD). Their coat of arms was a white T with a bottom that tapers into a sharp pointed tip as their coat of arms. Their primary colors were gold and white(gold as the primary color and white as secondary color).
You should also add the Order of St. George of Alfama(founded in 1201 AD by King Peter II of the Kingdom of Aragon).
I would like you to add these Medieval military orders, as well as the ones you have already added in your current Holy Knightly Orders mod, as separate Bretonnian styled minor factions that would be located in Araby, west of Nehekhara(the Land of the Dead of the Tomb Kings) in a separate mod. I am not sure if you know how to do it or if you'd be interested in doing that yourself, but I think it would be such a cool addition that would definitely not be lore friendly in any way but oh such a cool mod it would be.
Their territories wouldn't have to be particularly large either so space wouldn't be much of a problem. They should be found on the eastern side of the Arabyan mountains and in central as well as coastal Araby, to the north, northwest, northeast, southwest, south and southeast
They could be part of a confederation of the Bretonnian Crusader States, and they could and should be allies to the Kingdom of Bretonnia of course(and ALL Bretonnian sub factions) and could have good relations with the Empire but needn't necessarily be allies per se with the Empire, and each historical based Crusader faction would be allied with each other or they could be neutral to one another so that their primary focus would be the Tomb Kings, the Lahmians, the Southlands and Araby(once Araby would finally be added as its own faction, playable(hopefully playable) or not, remaining simply an NPC faction, but I doubt CA will add Araby just as an NPC faction). Their main war would be with Araby so naturally they would be at war with Araby once they would be in the game as a faction.
This could be such a cool reenactment in the Warhammer World in Total Warhammer 2 of the historical crusades in the Holy Land between European nations and the forces of the Middle East battling over the control of Jerusalem(the capital in Araby would be Lashiek, home of the Sultan, which would kind of represent a Warhammer located Jerusalem).
You get the war between Europe and the Middle East during the Medieval period equivalent already with Bretonnia having declared Errantry War crusades against Araby in the Warhammer World's past, along with the Empire. But these historical based knightly orders as their own crusader factions added would take that to another level.
Like I said, I am not sure if you can or want to go through the trouble to add this in a separate mod, but that would be fantastic and that would be a mod I would love to use.
It's a shame that you can't add new factions currently considering that it's evidently beyond your knowledge. But I look forward to the day when you will start to learn this and when you actually do and want to add your own factions.
If you were to make such a mod, I would like you to eventually build up even more on that mod by adding historical kingdoms into the mix in various locations of the Warhammer World that would fit their real life location relative to the Warhammer World locations of the nation, people and/or culture they're supposed to represent in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. Mind you that I would like you to make them in the Bretonnian(13th-early 15th century Medieval period knights and men at arms) styled kingdoms' fashion to fit the Medieval theme.
For example, the Kingdoms of Sweden, Norway and Denmark would be found in Norsca(duh, Norsca is Warhammer styled Scandinavia after all). But not the viking era Scandinavia, which is what Norsca would be closer to. I envision the Bretonnian styled Scandinavia(so the 13th, 14th and 15th century Scandinavia).
Stockholm would be Sweden's capital castle city and Sweden would be found along either the entire or half southern side of Norsca reaching slightly to the northeast bordering the Sea of Claws, Oslo would be Norway's capital castle city and Norway would be located along either the entire or half northern side of Norsca bordering the Sea of Chaos to the north, being a thin line along the entirety of Norsca's northern borders and being larger towards the western tip and Copenhagen would be Denmark's capital castle city. Denmark would be a small region in the western or southwestern tip of Norsca also bordering the Sea of Claws. Denmark could also control some territory in Naggaroth, having one or a few colonies there.
The colors of the Kingdom of Sweden would be primarily blue and yellow and gold second, while the colors of the Kingdom of Norway would be primarily red and yellow and blue second and the primary colors of the Kingdom of Denmark would be primarily yellow and blue second.
You could also add Finland with its tribal states, the Karelians, the Finns and the Tavastians, which I guess would be located partially in eastern Norsca and would extend a bit into Troll Country and Kislev. There should be an event quest chain which would eventually allow players to create the Kingdom of Finland(even though there was no such sovereign nation at all in history but the option could be there since this is a fantasy world), as well as the Republic of Finland, when playing as one of the sub factions of Finland, uniting all of Finland under one banner. They could break off from the Kingdom of Sweden(which historically controlled Finland during most of the Medieval period) but all sub factions of Finland would start off as vassals of Sweden.
The Kingdom of Finland should use the real coat of arms of Finland which is a roaring crowned gold rampant lion with its silver and gold armored right hand holding a raised straight European styled silver sword with gold crossguard, pommel and I can only guess that the hilt is also gold, standing on top of a curved silver sword with gold crossguard, hilt and pommel on a red field with nine silver roses. That is what Finland's Bretonnian styled knights should use as their primary coat of arms as well, as well as that of their other provinces as their lesser coats of arms.
All historical provinces of Finland should be playable, which are as follows: Finland Proper/Southwest Finland(this is the province you should probably have to play as to be able to eventually form The Kingdom of Finland), Central Finland, Tavastia Proper, Satakunta, Pirkanmaa(alternatively Tampere, Birkaland or Birka), Newland, Päijänne-Tavastland(alt. Päijät-Häme), Kymenlaaso(alt. Kymmdal), North Karelia, South Karelia, Northern Savonia, Southern Savonia, Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia, Kainuu(alt. Newland), Lapland and Åland Islands.
Their primary colors could be white and blue second as well as the reverse order, and additional colors could be red primarily and yellow and gold second as well as the reverse order. They could also use the colors of their provinces' heraldic coats of arms.
The capital castle city of the Kingdom of Finland could be Helsinki(although Finland Proper's capital was/is Turku, so maybe Turku could be the capital).
There could also be the Grand Duchy of Finland/the Grand Principality of Finland(even though that wasn't a thing until 1809 all the way up to 1917; it lasted a whole whopping 108 years :O) but hey, this is a fantasy world. It could and should(just like in real life) be part of the Russian Empire but could try to rebel by secede from the Russian Empire which would of course lead to an open war with Russia and its allies.
The Kingdoms of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland would be found in Albion. I'm not sure if that island is useable right now but it would be awesome if it could be used because that's basically the Warhammer World's Britain. Albion is the olden name for Britannia/Britain as well. The Kingdom of Wales would be natural allies with the Kingdom of England, while the Kingdom of Scotland would be enemies with England(and Wales for obvious reasons) and vice versa. The Kingdom of Ireland could possibly be allies with Scotland or they could be independent and just neutral with both England, Scotland and Wales. However, Ireland could have good relations with Scotland.
London would be England's capital castle city(London became England's capital city in the 12th century, but York was England's capital for a time some time in the 13th and all the way up to the 14th century, but eventually London became England's capital again as it remains as such to this day) and England would be found in southern and southeastern Albion, Edinburgh would be Scotland's capital castle city(Scotland would be found in northern Albion), Cardiff would be Wales' capital castle city(Wales would be found as a tiny region in southwestern Albion) and Dublin would be Ireland's capital castle city(Ireland would be found in eastern Albion).
The colors of the Kingdom of England would be primarily red and yellow second.
The colors of the Kingdom of Scotland would be primarily blue and white second or yellow primarily and red second(their Royal Coat of Arms is that of Robert the Bruce, which is a red rampant lion with a blue tongue and blue claws on a yellow field surrounded by ornate red threads lined with four red fleur de lis and four red crowns on the outside of the threads, facing away from the lion, and four more of them on the inside, facing towards the lion).
The colors of the Kingdom of Wales would be two square sections yellow and two red. On the yellow fields there are two red lions with blue claws and blue tongues while on the red fields there are two gold lions with blue claws and a blue tongues.
The colors of the Kingdom of Ireland could be primarily blue and yellow and gold second, similarly to Sweden but could still be styled differently and have different tones of blue and yellow.
Now, I know Albion in Warhammer Fantasy lore is Celtic Britain, so you would have to leave some space for that faction as well once they'd be added by CA, if they ever will be(which I sincerely hope). And technically Ireland was controlled by England for most of the Medieval period but in the mid Medieval period(in the mid 16th century, in 1542-47 to be precise) Henry VIII of England became king of Ireland.
The Kingdom of France(well, that's basically what Bretonnia is already, but fantasy styled in the Warhammer Fantasy fashion, but hey, more Frenchies :D) would be located in Bretonnia(the geography of Medieval France and that of Bretonnia is almost identical) and I think Paris should be its capital castle city located in a place which would best resemble the real life location of Paris in France, somewhere in Bretonnia. They would of course be strong and great relations allies with each other, France and Bretonnia, sharing very similar cultures and customs. It should come as no surprise, since Bretonnia is greatly based on and influenced by Medieval France, but also Medieval England to some degree, so that's why they are and would be so similar if they were to coexist.
The colors of the Kingdom of France would be primarily blue and yellow and gold second.
The Kingdom of Spain, well yet again, that's Estalia(Estalia is High and Late Medieval and Renaissance period Spain, pre-unification Spain mixed with Portugal; the Kingdom of Spain was created during the late or late mid 15th century, in 1469 in fact, when the Crown of the Kingdom of Castile and the Kingdom of Aragon were unified under one kingdom, the Kingdom of Spain, after the marriage between Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon), and they would be located somewhere in Estalia coexisting as strong allies. Madrid would be its capital castle city.
The colors of the Kingdom of Spain would be primarily red and white and yellow and gold second as well as primarily yellow and gold, white and red second.
The Kingdom of Portugal would also be somewhere in the western coast of Estalia and its territories would resemble Portugal or it would be similar in shape to Portugal but would be smaller. It could have good relations with Spain and Estalia but wouldn't necessarily be allies with them, and they could be neutral with Tilea, Italy, the Border Princes and everyone else. Its capital castle city would be Lissabon or Coimbra.
The colors of the Kingdom of Portugal would be primarily white and blue second.
The Kingdom of Italy would be located in Tilea(Tilea is the Italian city-states during the Medieval and Renaissance periods) and Tilea and Italy would also be good allies. Rome would be Italy's capital castle city. The Kingdom of Italy was also known as the Hunnic Kingdom. It was founded by Hunnic soldiers in 1207 and was dissolved in 1271. So it lasted for 64 years. :)
Of course you could add the historical city states of Italy during the Middle Ages in addition to or instead of the Hunnic Italian Kingdom.
Due to me being unable to find the anything particular of the Kingdom of Italy color wise I cannot say what colors that they would use. I find more of the Kingdom of Italy under Victor Emannuel II back in 1861-1946. The only other Kingdom of Italy I can find is that under the Holy Roman Empire, which consister of northern and central Italy. You would probably have to use the colors of the city states of Italy.
The Holy Roman Empire during the Medieval and early Renaissance periods would be somewhere in the Empire of Mankind and that's what the Warhammer Fantasy Empire of Mankind is based on and influenced by. These would naturally use the Imperial models and textures of Warhammer Fantasy with some Bretonnian style in the mix just to add variation. They would be natural allies with The Empire of Mankind and Marienburg with fantastic relations and they would get along with them very well. Its capital castle city would be either Prague or Vienna(probably Prague though).
The colors of the Holy Roman Empire would be primarily yellow and black second as well as primarily black and yellow and gold second.
The Kingdom of Poland would be located where Kislev is, in southwestern Kislev, bordering the Sea of Claws to the west, Kislev to the northeast, east and southeast, Troll Country to the north and northwest and the Imperial province of Ostland to the south, southwest and southeast. Poland would be natural allies with Kislev and would have access to Winged Hussars and Bretonnian styled knights with a few Imperial styled knights in the mix as their elite forces.
The colors of the Kingdom of Poland would be primarily red and white and silver second as well as primarily white and red second.
The Tsardom of Russia could be added. Either that or both the Kievan Rus and/or the Tsardom of Russia, the Republic of Novgorod/Novgorod Rus and/or the Pleskov Republic. Or all of them. The Novgorod Republic seems to be the most fitting to add though I suppose. This could be added partially in northern and northwestern Kislev and extend northwest of Kislev, into the Northern Steppes east and northeast of the World's Edge Mountains as well as the Mountains of Mourn, all the way to the Eastern Steppes(but this doesn't matter right now since the Northern and Eastern Steppes aren't available accessible areas yet in Total Warhammer 1 or 2, nor are the Mountains of Mourn).
These would also use Bretonnian styled cavalry, mixed with some Imperial knights, Kislev(Russian) Boyars, mass units of peasants and other units that would fit a separate non-Kislev Warhammer Fantasy styled Russian Empire's army roster.
The colors of the Kievan Rus would be primarily red and gold, yellow and silver second, alt. primarily blue and yellow and gold second.
The colors of the Republic of Novgorod would be white, silver, gold and blue.
The colors of the Kleskov Republic would be primarily blue and white, silver and gold second.
The colors of the Tsardom of Russia would be black, yellow, gold, silver and white.
We can't forget Livonia for the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. :) The Grand Duchy of Lithuania could be a major ally and a quest chain could be triggered that would encourage Poland and Lithuania to join forces as one which would them a powerful faction.
The colors of Old Livonia would be primarily red and white second as well as primarily white and black and silver second.
The colors of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania would be primarily red and white, silver and blue second.
I will stop there because it's already such a long suggestion list. There are so many Medieval nations that you could add that they are too many to mention here and most of those might be too many to add because they would eventually diminish the original Warhammer factions' territories by too much, depending on how much territory one gives to each of those factions.
I hope you didn't mind the long list. :P
I dont know how far you are in the modding materia but for beginners a "simple" unit is a difficault competition. I only would call myself "advanced modder" (adding units and buildings, editing textures, maybe create custom lords and other things in this direction) but adding a whole new nation is a completly other thing - yes if I have the time I will try to create a crussade-based faction but editing the whole warhammer map is far to big for one person espacilly if this persion is "only" a advanced modder.
A other point is that even the editing of the unit roster of each faction to create an more medievalish atmosphere is nearly impossible for one person too.
Furthermore - I know my mods are not lorefriendly at all - such modifications would completly break the whole warhammer lore. I have created this mod because after a long time I played Medieval 2 again and I saw these Orders and thought that they perfectly fit into the Bretonnian military - an idea was born...anyways.
So to breakdown the whole thing a bit:
- your ideas are great but to much for me (manpower and knowledge wise)
- it will completly break the lore (in my opinion)
- file-size-wise such a mod have to split up in many different parts
now to some positive aspects
- of course Im planning to expand this mod (new units/orders)
- if I find the time I will try to create a new crussade-themed faction or try to editing an exsisting one
I only made these suggestions entirely because I wondered what it would be like if the Warhammer nations and other factions met the real life historical nations but they would be born on the Warhammer Fantasy planet in this scenario and that is why they would have access to fantasy creatures and/or other magical elements that would make them on par with the Warhammer factions. If they met actual historical nations, of course the historical ones wouldn't stand a chance, generally speaking.
As far as my modding capabilities and modding experience goes, I have zero experience in modding past Warcraft 3 world editing, custom units and basic ability creation. Mostly because I'm clueless and lazy so I don't try to tackle it myself because I think I would just get bored and not finish it, leaving potential fans wanting more. This is why I haven't started modding in Oblivion, Skyrim, Medieval 2, Attila, Total Warhammer, etc.
But when wanting to play actual one hundred percent lore friendly Warhammer Fantasy, of course I wouldn't need or want the historical real life nations in the mix. xD It's just an idea for fun and a what-if scenario.
When playing or making such a mod, one obviously doesn't make it or play it for the sake of the lore.
But I wouldn't know where to begin, how to do it and such. I would want that mod as compatible as possible though.
I am glad that you are atleast considering to create atleast one faction of your own which would fit the Warhammer lore to some extent. :)
Im now begin to retexture weapons/lances too.
Hospitaller will have black colored lances, Malta red ones, the Templars white lances, Holy Knights white and azure and Lazarus green colored lances. I also retextured the color of the "scarf" at the helmet for Lazarus Knights too. But only for them because I think all other orders looks perfect with the white accent.
I was wondering if you could do a Greatsword unit for the Hospitalier, Templar and Malta.
It would be nice if the dismounted knight of Malta coul have sword instead of mace.
Canon and gunner for the Hospitalier would be nice too.
Eventually if you could do a building for every order would be nice because the templar building could give commerce and economic buff, Hospitalier could give growt and replenisement buff, Teutonic military buff and so on. (sry english not my first language)
I saw your lord mod and it fking cool but i saw that you said that you coul not make it a stand alone mod for now, but eventualy if you learn how to would you do it, cause i like your unit and lord mod but the mod that had Jerusalem is not realy my type of mod.
Hope you will continue your moding work cause it realy great.
Of course new units/orders are not the problem modding wise.
So yes I note your ideas...
My first idea was to create a building for each order but I throw it away very fast because honestly it is a bit complicater (for me) than to create units. Additional to that it is "city-building-slot-availability-wise" not possible. Some background... I want that these units are faction exclusive for the main bretonnians and my created faction.... to the problem: If I create a building for every order you need currently five free building slots and that is not intended by me.
But I may try to add techs (if it is not complicater than that xD) and each tech unlocks an order or so.
To the lords I may upload a version for the other factions. The problem is that I use a script to add them to the recruitment list. If I opened up the script for every bretonnian faction there are two possibilities: number one four factions have access to the lords and all lords can recruited by all factions, case two four faction have access to the lords and if one faction recruits one of them it will be inavailable for the others. (I hope you get what I say)
