Traditions and government ethics restrictions
Hello,
I'll try to keep things simple and direct.

I'd like to get people's collective opinions on a matter that needs resolution.
Basically, it's a bit tedious, and some people have outright made a complaint that there are too many traditions.

As things are right now, a few of the traditions are mutually exclusive in the sense they cannot be completed or maybe even taken with any meaning if the other has been taken.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but people play this mod for the role playing aspect. Due to how the bonuses and restrictions work out even in vanilla, I think nobody will go materialist and spiritualist right?

There are currently 16 traditions. Only 4 need to be removed from gameplay to make things much cleaner and convenient.

If anyone has a better option that is just as easy to implement please share in comments below.

I have 3 possible solutions to choose from.
They are an extension of the following proposed idea.

"The premise is each choice of ethic denies the tradition of the opposite ideology."
Faith/discovery, militarist/pacifist etc.

1) Everyone plays with 5 ethics. Meaning in game will the full range of 12-16 traditions.

2) Everyone gets only 4 ethics instead of 5.
Everyone will have a fixed number of 12 traditions, and a maximum of 4 ethics.
Choosing the fanatic level of an ethic will effectively be a 'free' upgrade that will have stronger penalties and/or weaker bonuses to balance.

3) A) Fanatic ethics deny 2 traditions each.
1 fanatic ethic means 14 traditions.
2 fanatic ethics brings means 12 traditions.

3) B) Players start off with 2 traditions. Each distinct choice of government ethic gives
a tradition. The idea isn't complete yet but basically you start with 2-3 traditions. Then you gain traditions as you choose government ethics. More decisions and research is needed to flesh it out. Will be the hardest to implement.

If you don't like removing particular traditions when you play the opposite ideology.

I think the mod as fine as it is and I don't see why 28K subscribers should have their experience alltered due to the hang ups of a few people upset that the mod isn't exactly what they wanted.

Then even more so the reaction will be interesting.

The emphasis is more on cleanliness, neatness. and aesthetics.
However since in some cases the mutually exclusive traditions can still be taken to some degree, deleting them outright due to ethic choices will create more Restriction which encourages a bit more more creativity.

Also some people won't care and others will go the "i must complete the tradition tree"

I added a second strawpoll for those who are particularly motivated to keep traditions as-is.
