Dimensional Wings & Omniblink Tech v1.3

Popis
Update 1.3:
Cursor blink.

I had made this mod for personal use a long time ago but decided to flesh it out and publish it. Enjoy.

I'm using project 42 with a custom sprite I made in this gif.

Dimensional Wings
(Legs Tech)

Characteristics:
• Energy cost: 10/s
• Full animation and afterimages for the wings
• Custom sounds for activation and wing flap (the flap is low-volume to avoid being annoying)
• Can move in any direction
• Can hover by holding Shift
• Grants fall damage immunity while active
• Can be reactivated without energy to secure a safe fall
• Buffs on the player affect the flying and gliding speed
• Pressing space again deactivates the tech at all points except when the wings are closed, since people might spam press to save themselves from a fall.

I made them to behave more like Terraria wings, but with twists to suit Starbound’s flow and feel more fun.

Functionality:
Double-jump to activate. Wings appear furled (closed) and will NOT make you fly immediately.
Press any direction to start flying, or hold Shift to hover.
While hovering, moving in any direction will begin flight.
Releasing all directions and Shift makes you fall.

Q:
Why the furled wings and no immediate flight?
A (update 1.2.3):
It's a safety measure. If you run out of energy, the wings will close, keeping the safe fall buff active. As a bonus, you can still hold up to glide at the price of energy regen, releasing it closes wings, and energy resumes restoring during the fall.
Example of falling without energy:

16 times the detail 17 times the colors (Update 1.1)

Since the game doesn't support changing tech colors, I made 16 copies with different colors.
Colors are as follows (in alphabetical order): Black, blue, brown, forest green, gold, green, ice, magenta, orange, pink, purple, red, steel, teal, white, and yellow.

Omniblink
(Body Tech)

Characteristics:
• Energy cost: 20 per use
• Can teleport in 8 directions (diagonals only with “special2”, since double-tapping diagonals is not a thing in Starbound)
• Custom animation and sounds (there is a GBA-era reference in here that some may recognize)

Functionality:
Double-tap a direction to teleport.
If you use a mod that restores “special2” (like RPG Growth, Zerotap, or WolFen FLCN-11 Gunship), you can use that key too.

Point Blink (Update 1.3):

Teleports you to the cursor; you can either double-tap "up" or press "special2" if you have it enabled.
The "Quantum Blink" version ignores the "within direct view" limitation. Since it can be used as a cheat item, I made it quite expensive.

It looks for valid teleport destinations within a 5-block radius, so if you try teleporting into the ground or walls, it will try teleporting you to the closest valid destination within the search limits.

It's a bug feature

While coding this, I changed the internal movement ability states to custom names so they’d work together. Turns out... they work with everything — including distortion spheres and morph abilities like those from RPG Growth and Project Irisil.

I considered patching this out, but it was too funny. I can make an optional patch later if needed.

Obtaining (Update 1.2)

Intended standalone way: Omniblink and the crafting station appear at Treasured Trophies.

The dedicated crafting station looks massive, but only the 4 center blocks conflict with other items, and it can be placed anywhere, even on air; So feel free to decorate around with it. If you really want to, you'll know it when you see it.

Activating the tech items will animate the item, consume it, unlock the tech, and immediately equip it.

⚠ Warning
The unlock items do not check whether you already have the tech. They will be consumed regardless.

Alternate way: If you have bk3k's Tech Helper, the techs will appear immediately in your tech console for 150 tech cards each.

Use this if the above mod breaks your tech UI. bk3k's Tech Helper priority fix.

Compatibility

Community weapons modpack has a crafting station with the same item ID as this mod, patch here.

Multiplayer Friendly?

Both techs are based on core Starbound abilities (Rocket Jump and Blink). They should work fine if other players don’t have the mod installed, but they will likely see missing assets or effects.

Customization

1. Idle Wings Patch:
Makes wings always visible while the tech is equipped, even when idle. It may look odd when using distortion spheres.

2. Player-Only Wings Patch:
Makes wings appear only on the player and disables them while using distortion spheres or morph abilities like those in RPG Growth or Project Irisil.
Other movement techs will disable them too since the tag is the same, but I created a check only for pressing "F" so they may not even have the chance to, either way wings will reactivate once used again.

3. No Afterimages Patch:
Disables afterimages for the wings.

4. No Particles Patch:
Disables particles emitted by the wings.

None of the patches conflict with each other, but #2 overrides #1 if both are installed.

Issues… Maybe

I tried to make the wings appear between the player and the back item, but it looks like Starbound hardcodes these positions inside the same zlevel.
Modded invisible back items are a quick fix here, but minimalistic back items have some good results too.

Removing

If you want to remove the mod, unequip the techs first, or you will not be able to use the character until you unequip them by installing the mod again or some other similar way. Openstarbound seems to not have this issue.

Permissions

You’re free to use anything from this mod — just credit me and, if possible, link back to this Workshop page.

If there are any errors, just tell me and I'll patch it up.

hey will this work on satutarians mod if not ummm i kinda need that

I'll look up the error on frackin. As for the costs, I chose them based on difficulty and what players would want. That's why Flight only uses 1 solarium (the player just got to tier 6), but I based the ones from Omniblink on the amount of pixels I used for the art. It made no sense at the start, but when I compared it to its usability and if people really wanted it compared to the wing, I left it as it was; its derivatives were based on it, and the quantum blink was just what was left to get to a full number from the sum of the others in the recipe.

I have to ask: how did you figure out the material costs for the wings and blink? I could never balance the cost with techs like those—I would end up either making them too expensive or too cheap. XD

Visual glitch on tech panel when used with Frackin Universe.

I didn't add a dedicated flying speed control as of right now; when testing it, I decided on a considerable but not so fast speed (about half force compared to rocket jump). The thing is, if you have speed buffs on your character, you will have flight speed multiplied as well, and slow debuffs will make you fly slower. If I find a way to adjust speed with an item without breaking the current functionality, I might do it.

Also, yeah, I just searched again, and what you said is true. I might have seen that cursor blink was already a thing and just thought, "Yep, already done," and marked it off.

You can't, get used to it

Month of waiting was worth it

Thank you so much for considering AND implementing my suggestion

You're saying there are too many blink mods out there, which is kinda funny considering im subscribed to so much, and only BetaBound (I think) adds it for me

Also your blinks are much quicker when it comes to delay between uses, and that's fantastic
Mark.P  [autor] 24. srp. v 17.39
The teleport suggestion from Narriz was indeed a good idea. I thought about not making one since there are too many mods like this, but all of them (or most) were for the head slot, so I made my version for the body slot and added a version that ignores the view limitation.
