Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII

Description
Adds icons for historical, indigenous, and new religions as well as custom faiths.

~~~
Known Issues:
- Icon visibility on the city banner and leader ribbon is distorted for some religions. I need the release of the official art tools to address this.
- Some of the names have random hyphens. If a name is 3 words or over, the interface pushes it to overlap the icon underneath on the religion select screen. Hyphens helped get around this.
- Leader preferences. This is out of my hands. The tables are in the game, they just don't seem to do anything. The mod programs preferences just in case the tables are ever activated. Leaders will currently choose randomly from the new religions.
Configuration File Instructions:
The mod folders include a configuration file - "HR_Config.sql" - which includes several options to adjust the number of added religions. (I'm looking into alternate ways to more conveniently adjust the configuration settings in the future).
The install location usually looks something like:
~\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1295660\3507130398
This file can be edited with any writing program. However, it’s recommended to use Notepad (in which it was formatted) or other plain text program. It includes entries such as:
(4, /* Set Mod Mode...
Simply change the numerical value to your preferred option based on the KEY description in each section, careful not to edit or erase any punctuation marks (comma, bracket, etc.) when editing the numerical values, and then save the file.
(2, /* Set Mod Mode...
NOTE: If using this mod in multiplayer, all players must have identical value settings in the configuration file.
Mod Modes:
Using the configuration file, Historical Religions may be loaded in several different modes to adjust the number of added religions. By default, the mod will load in Complete Mode (4).
- Base Game (0): Only load the religions and custom icons found in the base game. Religions will still use the new icons and religion order.
- Lite (1): Includes the Base Game religions plus an appropriate historical choice for every leader and Exploration Era civ. Includes one new custom icon.
- Standard (2): Includes the Base Game and Lite Mode religions, major denominations for world religions, and a selection of additional religions based on historical notability, geographic diversity, and past Civilization games. Includes some new custom icons.
- Streamlined (3): Includes all religions and custom icons, but denominations and sub-religions are disabled.
- Complete (4): (Default) Includes all religions and custom icons.
* The HR VII Standard Quick Set mod may be used to load 'Standard Mode' by default without editing the configuration file.
Mode Options:
- Base Denominations Added as Custom Icons: (Default) E.g., if "Mahayana" and "Theravada" are active, the icon for "Buddhism" can still be selected as a custom icon.
- Religions from Other Modes Added as Custom Icons: E.g., if Lite Mode is selected, the mod will load the Lite Mode religions as named religions and the remaining religions normally found in Complete Mode as custom icons.
- Limit Selection to Exploration Era Religions: Removes extinct ancient religions and modern religions from the game, but keeps most indigenous religions.
Individual Religion List:
- Customizable Religion List: Religions may be individually enabled / disabled within their respective mode's set, including disabling denominations.
- Load Named Religions as Custom Icons: All Named Religions may be individually loaded as a Custom Icon instead of a Named Religion.
- Load Select Custom Icons as Named Religions: Select Custom Icons may instead be loaded as additional Named Religions.
Religion Options:
- Change Default Religion Names: Change the default name of specific religions to various names representing alternate, colloquial and/or more ethnically specific names and spellings as well as historically related religions and sub-religions.
I agree. I actually think there's a lot of cool things that could be done with religion. Unfortunately, I also think the game and the age system limits a lot of it, too. I’m waiting to see how Firaxis eventually expands religion before thinking about how to adjust it more myself.
it might be cool if you founded a base religion and then there's like an event chain where you see it split up into different denominations
Hey, everyone!
v3.2 is posted. As with any update, there is a small chance it can interfere with an existing save. The chance is relatively minor, but if you find issues a link to download and manually install the previous version (3.1) is at the bottom of the description.
Usually, the most it will cause is for the chosen religions to be re-ordered change, but, if a religion no longer exists, it will delete it from your game. However, there should be nothing that will outright break an existing save.
Your Config File settings will also be reset.
As always, I really am sorry for the inconvenience, but it can't be helped when posting an update.
I also posted the "HR VII Standard Quick Set" mod:
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3544381654
If you are comfortable editing the configuration file, that mod doesn't add anything new, but I know a few people don't like editing extra files.
If that mod is enabled, it adjusts HR VII to load in 'Standard Mode' by default without editing the configuration file.
v3.2 (1/2)
- You can now Force Load a religion regardless of other enabled options by setting it to 3 in the Config File
- Fixed religions occasionally appearing twice (as both a Named Religion and Custom Icon) with certain Config File setting combinations
- Fixed Nestorianism not working with the Config File options
- Added Genghis, Assyria, Dai Viet to the preference tables in case Firaxis ever uses them
- Adjusted my existing preference table settings
- Changed the Ifa icon to a Crowie Shell
- Reversed the Moon icon so it won't overlap with Silla's civ icon
- The Restorationism icon no longer has a cross if set as a custom icon
- Added a base denomination icon to organize the Northeast Woodlands religions
- Added new custom icons: Mirror, Sword, Sun Wheel, Masonry, Spider
Tomatekh  [author] 18 Aug @ 3:53pm
v3.2 (2/2)
- Some custom icons (with an * in config file) can now also be loaded as a named religion by setting their value to 2
- Added new religions: Yurupari Flute Cult (Amazonian denomination), Kaumaram (Hindu denomination), Theosophy
- Repurposed the Pentacle icon for Wicca (named religion) to even the religion numbers
- The Theosophy icon loads as a regular Ouroboros icon if set as a custom icon
- Additional unused religions and icons can be activated in the config file
- Base and Lite mode now display the Sunni icon (base game Islam) for Islam
- Standard mode now displays the Tale e Fonua icon for Manaism
- Added more alternate name choices to the Config File
- Added support for the Standard Mode Quick Set companion mod
- Slightly reordered and/or recolored some of the existing icons to accommodate the new ones
- Misc. minor text, art, code adjustments and clean up
Hey, everyone! I have an update just about finished which should be ready to post either Monday or Tuesday. As with any update, there’s a chance it will interfere with existing saves (I'll post a manual download of the existing version in case you need it).
Thanks, really appreciated!
@axatoramus
Hi, at the moment the mod doesn't change any of the base religion mechanics. However, I am also disappointed with how everything works at the moment and am thinking of ways they might be adjusted for a potential companion mod in the future. I'm also hoping Friaxis might do something more substantial with religion in a future patch or DLC.
Incredibly nice mod. Love it! But is there a possibility to fight off other missionaries?
