Forest Brush Revisited v1.4.15

Description

Features
Forest Brush lets you paint realistic and varied forest, grasslands, gardens or just patches of plants with ease and convenience.

Background
This is an update to the amazing Forest Brush mod by TPB. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be maintaining his mods anymore and I could no longer use it with the P&P DLC update. So I worked on this for myself and have released it in case others find it useful.

What have we done
The main thing we have done is fixed the brush not appearing bug from the original and also tidied up the loading code to try and reduce issues this mod was having with loading order and other mods.

I have tested it while running most of the common mods, LSM Revisited, Traffic Manager, Tree Anarchy, Prop Anarchy, Node Controller, Move It! etc.. and had no issues. If you have any issues with it then let me know and I will try to fix them. I will definitely need your outputlog.txt file and a list of installed mods.
Usage Tips
  • Hold down CTRL while moving the mouse and the brush will rotate.
  • Hold down ALT while moving the mouse to change the size.
  • Right click when placing a single tree will cycle through the current brushes trees.

Troubleshooting
Trees keep getting painted on the roads and buildings
- This is caused by the "Collision" setting of the Fine Roads Tool/Network Anarchy being OFF. Turn it back ON and the trees wont be painted on objects any more

I don't see any trees in the list
- This is because you have selected "Brush" mode instead of "All Trees" mode.
Brush mode will only show the current trees for the selected brush, all trees mode will list all loaded trees.
You can change mode by clicking on the button next to the search box under the tree list. If the button shows a brush then it is in "Brush" mode, if it shows several trees then it is in "All Tree" mode.

Method not found: 'TreeInstance.RenderInstance'. [System.MissingMethodException]
- This is the error you will get when subscribed to the old non "Revisited" version of this mod. Please ensure you unsubscribe from TPB's mod when subscribing to this mod.

Incompatible Mods
  • Forest Brush - You will need to unsubscribe from the original mod to use this version.

How do you actually use this?

@Sleepy first of all thank you for this mod, it is a must have mod. however i have a question regarding the functionality of anarchy. does building trees not work when anarchy is turned off, for example in tree control, so that trees do not build on roads or buildings? does it still work the same as when tree anarchy is turned on and they build everywhere? i even noticed that sometimes several overlapping trees build at one point. is this correct, or do i have something set wrong? if this is correct, then it doesn't matter, i just want to know if i should look for some setting. thanks for the answer

Feature suggestion:
A way by marking an area on the map, and have the mod add the trees in the selection to the current brush or create a new one (kind of like picker tool)

This is an essential to me, especially for clearing along not-necessarily-straight roads.
Know what would make it double-awesome though? An option for, when deleting, to also clear out -props-. Small rocks, fallen trees, etc. MoveIt's marquee-select is great for a block, but trying to clear a curvy country road so I can zone low-density without seeing boulders in driveways... I really, really wish this tool could do that as well as the trees! ;) Just on delete though, don't need to include props IN a "forest" brush.

Love it. Especially that you can save different brushes of vegetation for different areas/savegames.

Ok i figured out how to remove trees. Still wondering if I can paint vegetation though…

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there a way to use this brush to paint vegetation? And can I use it to remove trees/vegetation? Thank you.

@katsuki,

I would need to look at your output_log.txt file.
