Description

The Al Basrah map is a realistic and immersive depiction of the city of Basra, Iraq. The map is designed to provide players with a challenging urban warfare environment that requires strategic thinking and teamwork to succeed.

The city is divided into several key areas, including the industrial district, the port area, and the residential neighborhoods. Each area presents its own set of challenges and opportunities, requiring players to adapt their tactics to the environment.

Players will need to navigate the narrow streets and alleys of the city while avoiding enemy snipers and ambushes. Buildings provide cover and concealment, but can also be used as vantage points for snipers and machine gunners.

The port area offers a unique challenge, with open water providing a potential avenue for flanking maneuvers. However, players must be careful not to expose themselves to enemy fire while crossing the docks.

Outside of the city, players will encounter vast areas of desert terrain, with large sand dunes that can hinder movement and provide cover for snipers and ambushes. These desert areas can be just as dangerous as the urban areas, with limited cover and long sight lines.

Overall, the Al Basrah map is a dynamic and challenging environment that will test the skills of even the most seasoned players.

Surface features

The land has several types of surface. It has two different types of sand, soft sand and deep sand. Visually they are the same and will generate loss of traction to the vehicles. The deep area may prevent less powerful vehicles from passing through it. The deep sand is usually located on the tops of the dunes.

These surfaces generate a suspended sand effect when passing through them.

Other features

With regards to additional features, the mod includes a module that allows for the programming of prayer calls from all the mosques in the city at specific times of the day. The prayer calls are scheduled for 2, 6, 7:30, 10, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20, and 22 hours. Additionally, the mod includes a module that allows players to access the city's sewer system through manholes, as well as another module that allows players to disable the lights of buildings in the Jbad area.

Game logics list

  • Albasrah Call to Prayer
  • Albasrah sewer network
  • Disable JBAD Buildings Lights

About the sewer system, indicate that it is physically located in the upper left part of the map and corresponds to the central district of the city. By including the module, manhole covers with a hold action are generated at the start of the mission. To get out there are stairs inside the sewer and when climbing to the top they have a hold action action to get out.

For the operation of any of these features it is only necessary to place the corresponding game logic in the editor.

Undergrounds

The Hussein and Al-Zubair military bases have underground bunkers under the buildings and hangars.

Known issues

  1. In sewers, bunkers or underground areas of bases, AI does not move properly and can pass through walls and other objects. Therefore it is better to disable movement using:
    this disableAI "PATH";
  2. The loading of this terrain will modify posters and signs from other maps such as Altis or Livonia.
  3. In the main area of the city (as usual in Arma 3) a substantial drop in fps is experienced.

For the development of this map, Altis and Livonia textures have been replaced using PBOPREFIX for it and without modifying any p3d model.

Hi Dedmen Miller,

Regarding the issue with the broken files and the overwrite/delete discussion — this mod was made in my free time to enjoy with my clan and to share with others freely, without any revenue involved.

I understand there are concerns about replacing Arma 3 content with prefixed versions, but as far as I know, that practice is allowed.

Also, please note that I’m listed among the authors of JBAD, so it feels unfair to be accused of stealing mods when I’m actually part of that project.

This kind of hostility and quick judgment discourages genuine contributors and doesn’t help the spirit of this community, which has always been based on altruism and collaboration. Let’s focus on being constructive and supportive instead of divisive.

Thanks for your understanding.

Note this mod has alot of broken files.
It does pbo prefixes completely wrong, overwriting and even deleting vanilla files which causes popup errors at game start.
A bunch of PBO's have no configs at all (which isn't allowed).

Also despite having Jbad as a dependency this also contains files that were extracted from JBAD mod, which the authors say reuploading is not allowed ( https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/workshop/filedetails/discussion/520618345/2288338831428815036/ ), which is a bit questionable?

Awesome terrain!

However, I can second the lighting issues reported on other terrains.
I find that the sun, stars and moon gets deleted on all CUP terrains, which also dulls out the lighting.

This map changes the environment of some other maps. One example is using this together with Šumava, weather is always dull no matter what settings you set in the editor. Can this be fixed?
