Tranz Rail blue DC Pack

(Requires Bug's NZ Class DC Pack).

This pack includes ten DC locomotives in the Tranz Rail blue livery. I have previously released unbranded re-skins of 4657 and 4749, but those have been taken down and replaced by this pack.

DCs 4162, 4657 and 4749 were written off and scrapped after being involved in accidents, while the rest of the numbers were chosen because I remember seeing those DCs around Tauranga and Mount Maunganui before the arrival of the DL class.

Originally, DC 4784 wasn’t going to be included, until I remembered that she did come to Tauranga in 2013. I found this odd, because I thought 4784 was normally a South Island-based locomotive. Whilst she was in Tauranga, I saw the engine running in tandem with a DL on the Kinleith services.

For reference, these engines were built in the following years (all by General Motors of Canada):

4041 - originally built in 1966 (rebuilt from DA 1507)
4110 - originally built in 1966 (rebuilt from DA 1509)
4162 - originally built in 1964 (rebuilt from DA 1478)
4191 - originally built in 1966 (rebuilt from DA 1508)
4283 - originally built in 1964 (rebuilt from DA 1493)
4352 - originally built in 1967 (rebuilt from DA 1528)
4507 - originally built in 1967 (rebuilt from DA 1545)
4657 - originally built in 1964 (rebuilt from DA 1477)
4749 - originally built in 1965 (rebuilt from DA 1495)
4784 - originally built in 1964 (rebuilt from DA 1476)

None of the aforementioned DCs are still in service with KiwiRail, although 4191 did last in service long enough to receive the K.R. livery. She was retired at some point between 2016 and 2019, and is currently in storage at Hutt Workshops.

As for 4041, she was sold to Martinus Rail in 2020, repainted in their livery and shipped to Australia. 4162, 4657 and 4749 were all written off long before KiwiRail’s launch. On the other hand, 4110, 4283, 4352, 4507 and 4784 survived into the KiwiRail era, but retained their old Tranz Rail colours. They have all since been withdrawn, and I know 4110, 4352 and 4507 have been scrapped. Can’t say the same about 4283 and 4784, as I don’t know for certain.
