Black-Ice's Model Pack for Mappers & Gamers

Description
Please up or downvote the addon to let me know how you feel. I appreciate knowing what the community thinks.

The first images you see will usually be featured new additions!

These are not just for mapping - they can be used normally too! Almost everything is made to assume players will spawn and use these, so many items are modular!

The details

Welcome to my mapping model pack. In here are thousands - yes! - of models awaiting your use. They usually range from:
Roads
Industrial
Buildings
City stuff
Regular Props
Boats
Walls
Infrastructure
Bridges
Pipes
Tunnels
Custom made railway tracks (typically Trakpack3)
And many more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a suggestion/give feedback/let you know there's a problem?

Absolutely. I encourage it, even. A lot of my quality is based on feedback, and I try to act swiftly to fix problems despite trying to make sure things work first time round. I am always up for suggestions, and hundreds of models have been created as a result! Join the discord and message me or publicly ask for it. Some of the best ideas come from other people!

I see a small handful of items from L4D2 in this pack, how come they're there?

These are being used in maps I create and are a handy source for some of them as L4D2 isn't a game you can normally mount into GMod - but please note, I haven't ported all of L4D2 here, that would be crazy! There's only a few models I needed.

Where can I see what's been added to the pack already?

Other than the changelog, you can join the community discord which has an update page of its own changelogs. Also featured are more images such as WIP's, previous attempts, current feedback, suggestions and more.

I saw that it's been updated a few times, but my version doesn't contain the new stuff. What gives?

Under the assumption you're using this for mapping purposes and have therefore decompiled the addon, you may need to repeat the decompiling process and apply the newer version wherever your mapping project files are. This is because despite decompiling, the decompiled versions will not automatically update - that's why the workshop's a blast! If you think that this is still happening despite this, let me know what you're trying to find, and I'll see if it's a problem from my end or it's not put in correctly :-)

I can't find your addon in the spawnlist. Where is it?

Don't worry! As the addon doesn't have a dedicated spawnlist, you just simply need to scroll down in your spawnmenu (when you hold Q), and near the bottom will be a section labelled Addons. Expand this section and find "black-ice-models". From there, you will find a series of additional folders like roads, lighting, buildings - some with their own sub-folders depending on type, speciality, usage - which get updated all the time!

How do I use this for mapping?

Using tools such as GmPublisher (which is my go-to recommendation!) you can easily upload or decompile addons from the workshop. Some creators don't like this - which is fair! - so make sure if you do this to another addon, you are using it purely for good reasons, and NOT to claim it as your own. Many content creators have worked very hard, so it's best you give them credit. Unlike them, my addon is absolutely welcomed to be decompiled. If you aren't sure, doesn't hurt to ask. Sometimes it's one way to find out "How did they do X, Y or Z?", especially if they can't be reached and Google doesn't help.

To use my addon for mapping however, use a tool like GmPublisher to download the addon into its original files, and move those files to the relevant mapping project area - in my addon, it will usually just be the Models and Materials folder, you may find additional ones in other addons - once done, load up hammer and the items should appear under 'Black Ice Models'. Be careful though, check which folders you want, as some of them are spare folders that are used to help with error model prevention on some mapping projects. For example, if you want just buildings, you should move the Buildings folder from both /models/blackice/ and /materials/models/blackice into the relevant areas, as you may cause error models or missing textures.

I see you take contributions - how can I get something added?

First off, we need to make sure that what we're adding isn't stolen content from another creator who might not appreciate their things being added - this is to protect you and me, plus, it wouldn't be fair! Secondly, simply reach out - preferably on Discord as I'm much more available on there throughout the day than I am here, however you can also add me on Steam as well if you prefer that. We'll see what it is you want added, and as long as I don't see any immediate issues, it shouldn't be a problem!

Perhaps that could be looked into. I'll see what I can do about reaching out to them!

If I read it correctly, it seems the maker of the addon himself creates compatibility? This is just based on what I read from the supported addons. Maybe you could get in contact with the guy.

Not gonna like Guy Montag, not sure how to do that! I feel honoured you've asked though. If someone can figure out how to add my roads to them I'd be more than happy for them to be used. There's a megaton of roads though so it would be quite the feat hah!

Any plans to add the roads/any props to the Track Assembly Tool?
These are some really nice roads.

Yep! The map is gm_lifevon and is available for download. Might be a bit janky now. You can test this by typing mat_wireframe 1 in console (requires sv_cheats) and you'll see most of it turn into wireframe.

The Chads dont actually have dedicated bogies. I'm pretty terrible at using them. I would like to make proper ones at some point when I can figure out how I should make them. At the moment there are no more! I recommend using your preferred bogies from other addons in the meantime. It is something I have been meaning to do...maybe that will be my next project for the train pack

I know the Chad's have bogies, but do any of the other models have bogies that Im missing?

For some reason, this addon recently spiked in subscribers! I just want to say thanks to anyone that's new to the pack. I like updating this often. I'd also love to know where you heard about the addon, as it seems totally random that I've had hundreds of subscribers extra than usual over the past few days!

Please join the community if you'd love to see more, see all the updates, make suggestions or give me feedback. This pack will only continue to grow as time goes on, and I'd love your support.

In fact they were modelled for TP3 tracks!
