Yes he does big damage when set up right but at the cost of the whole team, in pitch black you gotta tank hits which will build up stress further enhanced in darkness. Taking hits that already build up high stress in the dark will be increased even more by the occasional affliction flaming lines. In the end if you really want him to be the MVP you will have to tank lots of stress for the whole team non stop while still slotting a healer. You're right about the power thing for free, but to me the major issue would probably be that 2 default affliction interraction were he increases stress further when an ally hit or get hit (occasionally). There is already lots of stress management needed with pitch black and the stress team wide interraction that occasionally happen with afflicted units. That's just my opinion though, don't think too much about it, in any case thanks a lot for the answer and good luck with what's next !
1. Custom affliction / virtue chances are hardcoded. This is flexible if you're using default ones from the game, but for custom resolve states, it's not possible.
2. Animations are primitive. I agree. There's someone amazing in the community who'd love to remake the Abysswalker animations with me (See SirFartzalot's incredible work with Dragonslayer), but he and I both have infants & full time jobs. That's a WIP with a full overhaul design behind it, but each ability would have dual animations & purpose depending on stance.
3. This majorly sounds like a learn to play issue. What makes you think you should you get a ton of power for free? Especially with a virtue state? There are so many ways to reduce stress taken, and it can mitigate much of the risk. But risk is central to getting his power maximized. This guy one-shots, or nearly one-shots, enemies with the right set-up.
