The universe is big. It's vast and complicated. Then why going from one edge to another only costs you 100 fuel?! Fret not! This mod aims to fix that.

The higher fuel cost is accounted to the amount of energy the FTL engine uses to travel long distance. The game doesn't show us actually travelling in normal way (which would benefit from inertia), but always in "jump to hyperspace" way.

Gameplay-wise, this mod also makes you plan your space travel and puts that Mechanic crew[starbounder.org] (fuel cost decrease bonus) to some use!

Features
  • Far away systems cost more fuel;
  • Closer systems cost cheaper than farther systems;
  • Fuel cost accounts for ship size.
    The bigger your ship (ship upgrades), the costlier the travel;
  • Your fuel hatch now can store up to 10000 fuel.
Mod is safe to install/uninstall at anytime.

doesnt it make sense for the fuel to always be the same number? space has no friction, so basically once you reach FTL speed you can just sit back and maintain it without needing to use more fuel

Hey, just a friendly reminder that I think is useful to remember before we report any error to any mod in any game. There are two basic principles:

1.) if the error is so outlandish like deleting your character/save game, it's likely you did a mistake on your own. Especially if the mod you suspected only specifically touches one aspect of the game like this mod.

2.) it's difficult for mod authors to provide support without your mod list and the crash/error log. For Starbound the error log is located in \Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\storage\starbound.log. So do upload the file somewhere or copy-paste the content to Pastebin.

Either way, you most likely have too many mods interfering with the same system. Frackin Universe is a possible culprit.

Hey, I believe this mod is now broken. I recently installed it and upon trying to move my ship wouldn't let me move it. When I uninstalled the mod it deleted my character. Any help would be nice.

I've been looking for a mod that does this, but the cost feels a bit steep (~100 fuel feels like a lot to go the distance from one end of your cursor to the other), and the link to the easier version only leads to an error page. Any chance of another easier version (or the link to the existing easier version being fixed)?

when exactly did this stop being a vanilla feature? I kinda' stopped travelling large distances and only recently noticed how everything had the same cost, but I remember engineers and mechanic crew could improve fuel efficiency and capacity and I really miss this system ):

I made an addon to this mod that caps the ship tier used for the fuel cost calculations to tier 9 (1 tier above max. vanilla level), which should fix the excessive costs for BYOS ships:

BYOS essentially upgrades your ship to its own stage beyond max level, I think? Which would make sense for the ridiculously high fuel costs as your mod makes fuel costs bigger the 'larger' (higher tier) the ship is.
