hijal, are you still alive?

This is such an awesome build, such a shame that projectors don't allow sub-grids
DarthSandpaper 3 Nov, 2017 @ 7:05pm
Pretty much touching the rotors ripps the array apart! Looks cool though!:steamhappy:
Darkveld 10 Sep, 2017 @ 9:40pm
This can't be built in survival as anything past rotors must be built manually so you might as well build your own solar station at that point, needs some kinda precursor setup that has everything connected with merge blocks that can be disconnected then grinded down and aligned for deployment.

Been hard at work on the exploration carrier but it's going to take a lot more time than I planned. The first iteration of it had a lot of technical problems so I started over from scratch but the second version turned into the biggest build I have ever done to date /w four launch bays and two vehicle bays -- fully automated with all the bells and whistles but at a monster 125+ million kg's and it's maybe a third done. Obviously this is just way too big and laggy and probably will never be able to safely enter an atmosphere. The third version is going to be downsized quite a lot and won't have nearly as much armor as the second.

A look at the second version:

@destro00_andy16

Before you load your world you can edit the settings for it. You can change them there (along with other settings like survival/creative, tool shake, etc.).

How do I turn off block limits I can't find it in my settings
Hijal  [author] 29 May, 2017 @ 10:14pm
@destro00_andy16

If the world you are in has a block limit that's typically the message you'll end up getting. If it's your own world just turn the settings off and you should be good to go.
destro00_andy16 29 May, 2017 @ 2:45pm
question why when you try to paste it it says you can not place it because of block limits is it to large to place?

I went ahead and took somed screens of the shipyard despite it is about 80-90% complete yet no further work can currently be done unless Lord Clang has mercy on my soul. It is 100% modular and can literally be put together in any size or scope the user wants... if only it actually worked.. Asides from that problem it is currently very laggy. My guess is it's a combination of the enormous size of the yard plus the large amounts of pistons needed to drive the equipment arm and the docking arm (and I havn't even installed the piston assembly in the equipment arm yet!). It's not seeing daylight at this rate... I'm working on the exploration carrier instead for now. I had to start over from scratch again but I made a ton of progress in a short amount of time and will have one of the smaller craft that goes with it uploaded very soon. :-) Anyways: Shiny screens of the shipyard that could/could have been.

Making videos is going to be a while for me because I have pretty much zero experience making youtube content and I'm going to have to find some video editing software and spend time learning how to do all that stuff. I would like to make some videos in the very least to explain some of the inner workings of some of my builds in the very least though, if not also for showcasing and giving teasers for future ones. If anyone has any experience or suggestions on this it would be appreciated and many thanks! :-)
Hijal  [author] 25 May, 2017 @ 1:49pm
Wow I'm shocked and honored as this goes way beyond what I ever expected could of happened with the array. Never thought anything like that would happen! I'm going to have to strive to keep the bar up there more then ever now :D Thanks to xocliw for the recognition and I will try to produce more content for the game and for all to enjoy. :-)
Laffyistired 25 May, 2017 @ 10:21am
well done on the showing your mod by xocliw love to see some your work or video on your ship yard
Hijal  [author] 20 May, 2017 @ 9:45am
To any that are following me, I have been working on a a modular shipyard and a long range exploration carrier.

The shipyard is basically done but completion is being roadblocked with problems with the pistons in the extendable sections of the yard that allow the user to change the size of the yard (to accomodate differant size ships). Surprise, surprise. I've lost count of how many hours I've lost to these things.

The carrier has only really just been started but I am currently having to redesign the vehicle bay due to problems I've been having with the boarding ramp so It's going to drop vehicles/craft off on planets instead.

@Braxbro:

I know, right? We really need a superlaser block in vanilla.
Braxbro 20 May, 2017 @ 7:35am
It looks like it should shoot a huge beam from inside it in both directions. :P
TheAmazingERROR 9 May, 2017 @ 11:47pm
any mods???

Like the solar array from new vegas "helios one"
rayymondas 6 May, 2017 @ 10:40am
Love the look of this thing. Once I get a new computer that can handle larger creations better, definitely going to get some screentime on this beauty.
マクシイ 6 May, 2017 @ 9:04am
These projects are what make Space Engineers the great game that it is. You mix the practicality of all the seperable modules with such a beautiful design. Brilliant creation man, looking forward to future creations :)
Hijal  [author] 6 May, 2017 @ 8:27am
I'm currently working on a modular shipyard that is going to be registered under the codephrase 'Gaia' whenever it get's done. It's going to have a great deal more parts then the solar array but it should be very useful as well as pleasing to the eye. Those who enjoyed the solar array should be on the lookout for this one.

It could possibly make the solar array seem boring in comparison though, maybe. I'm not a fortune teller though so we'll just have to wait and see. Either way I hope people enjoy it :-)
Hijal  [author] 6 May, 2017 @ 8:21am
@Vengeance 220:

I have to admit that after all of that work that went into designing the array, whenever clang strikes the explosions that you get are well worth the effort that went into it. Sometimes it's just fun to do a quick save and hurl it into something. Someone should do a youtube series and do just that. :-)
MrTrollza 6 May, 2017 @ 7:50am
Watch the work of art go boom because why not
Lexe 6 May, 2017 @ 7:43am
No mods + modular building, excellent features for survival. thumbs up.
Alterran Longbow🐀 6 May, 2017 @ 5:17am
Helios Invasion Titan online.
Hijal  [author] 6 May, 2017 @ 3:33am
@Svinota:

Funny you mention that I was actually using some aspects of the design to build a mass driver cannon that does just that. Only problem is I can't make slugs for it that are designed to seperate into smaller peices before hitting the target... at least not for survival and it can't be reloaded easily. Still working on workarounds/alternatives.
Laбубина 5 May, 2017 @ 10:18pm
So beautiful, It looks like an orbital cannon

nice one
ADM S.Spectre 5 May, 2017 @ 11:41am
dam hijal how do you want for the piece of art
Hijal  [author] 5 May, 2017 @ 11:30am
@Emrule:

Due to popular demand you can now find a seperate version of the array with the thruster modules included now. Check the bottom of the description for the link. :-)
Emrule 5 May, 2017 @ 10:17am
At least give a few ion thrusters in all directions, otherwise a single bang and its going to drift for a long time
.MemeMan 5 May, 2017 @ 9:11am
Shouldn't be too hard considering my conditions. I should have wayy more than enough resources to build that, I hope...

This is a nice design, with merge blocks attached onto it and having a certen position on a star ship for those merge blocks to latch onto, that'd be a portable solar generator with the capability of expanding indefinately(well, probably), a great source of power and will save uranium, also it'll probably fuel an entire station if built big enough.

Many ideas, such waw, much impress.
Hijal  [author] 5 May, 2017 @ 8:18am
BigJugglyNutSack2:

I usually build a loader with a large amount of thrust that uses landing gear to latch onto heavy stuff like this I want to move. I had plans to eventually post a design of sorts of one of them for something just like this on my workshop, in the future though. :-) You probably could build a makeshift one pretty easy though -- just need a rough ship with a ton of thrust/gyros and the power for it with a arm for grabbing stuff and your good to go.

I play in legit survival, I have to build this and attach this to my growing starship...Tanks for expanding my suffering. ;_;
McLofty 4 May, 2017 @ 9:22pm
Beautiful
JCapt 4 May, 2017 @ 7:41pm
Yikes! This is a work of art. The sheer time taken to construct this and the effort at making the ring look round is amazing. You have a lot of patience. :)
Iron Chief 4 May, 2017 @ 7:41pm
I think the empire tried something similar, twice :P
Hijal  [author] 4 May, 2017 @ 7:08pm
@budisourdog:

There is a thruster module that is optional for exactly that:
