Enjoy :)
I spent tonight putting the unscripted version together. Now I just need to create the order tokens and dice, which I have the images for. Then I'll add a minimal UI for selecting the scenario to setup the battlefield for.
@insert coin: I'll aim to have the minimally-scripted version out by the end of the weekend. I can't give a release date for the fully-scripted version though unfortunately.
@Ward: I've got hi-res images of Herman Georing's train (and the physical copy to-boot), so you'll get to use the pain train :)
Quickle: Bro, just saying, i know you decided to go the scripted way and that's great, i would just like to say if you ever loose interest, it happens, just release whatever you have. One idea might be to just release a "manual" version, i.e. no scripts just the pieces etc.. and later release the scripted version. Just my 2 cents, would be a shame for all this work to not see the light of day, plus if you release something it may bring interest to the mod and give you the incentive needed.
Cheers mate
I'm sorry it's taking me longer than expected to release the Core Box for Heroes of Normandie. I've been restructuring the way I store data so that I can later create in-game tools like the Army Manager [www.boardgametools.fr] and Battlefield Creator [hsts-maps.sgenoud.com]. Additionally, these changes will simplify the process for scripting new scenarios.
Regards,
Kevin
I added another component today: the "Turn Counter". It's the piece that keeps track of which player has the initiative and when there are "end of turn" events.
I've also written "psuedo-code" for the Army layout automation and Campaigns.
I'm continuing to work on this with all of the free time I have.
Cheers,
Kevin
Quick update. I've finished automating the Battlefield layout. From a simple configuration file I can now automatically layout a whole battlefield. It should handle any of the newer scenarios with irregular sized battlefields too (like the sewers from HoS).
I'll be uploading a teaser and some details in a few days.
The next component is the Army layout automation. It will place each players' units and recruitment tiles onto the battlefield in a nicely organized way. It will be dynamic for armies of any size and teams of any number of armies (i.e. US + Commonwealth vs German vs Mythos).
Cheers,
Kevin
I've added support for other player's creations :) People can put their own custom Heroes of Normandie/Etc. content on the workshop, and it will plug-n-play with the official mod (i.e. custom scenarios will be included in the UI, etc.). I'm building the HeroesSystemTacticalScale game engine so that other modders can access its API. The API will be made public with nice documentation after the main release when I've got a stable code base.
Next, I'm working on the "Scenario Setter-Upper" that I talked about last time. This had to be pushed back until I added user mod support, since it changes the way I'm programming a lot of things.
There are multiple components to the Scenario constructor, but the first is the Battlefied. Once I have this completed, I'll post a video to share the exciting progress :)
Timeline
I underestimated how long it would take to create the Heroes of Normandie mod. I think I can reasonably finish by the end of October.
About the separate releases, i thought about the downside of updating them, the idea is to just cover the searches with the basic content, then make a big box on the table with a link or reference to the full system for those interested, put on the description, the notes etc...
After putting out the base games you just update the main Heroes System, think of them as Ad's just to cover the bases.
I've completed importing all Core Box assets into Tabletop Simulator. This includes re-sizing elements to be a consistent size and adding a tint color. Scripting wise I've completed the foundation. I have class structures to hold all the Heroes System game elements and I have an easy way of getting these objects from inside of their nested bags (which isn't supported by TTS believe it or not).
My next step is to write a "Scenario Setter-Upper" which will make scripting scenarios super easy and doable by people with minimal scripting experience.
Timeline
I anticipate releasing the Core Box (with a few small expansions) during the first week of October. I have family and then friends visting for the next two weeks, so I won't be as active during this time.
My suggestion, Keep things neatly organized so you can easily make a release titled "Heroes of Normandie" with the full base game and one called "Heroes of Black Reach" with only that content, then work on the full "Heroes System" mod and make sure to put links in both of the previous releases for folks who want the complete system.
Otherwise just name it "Heroes System" for simplicity and add the other game names on the tags and description.
Best Regards.
The new mod will eventually include all the Heroes System games: Heroes of Normandie, Shadows over Normandie, Heroes of Stalingrad, and Heroes of Black Reach (if allowed). It'll be called something like "Heroes System Tactical Scale - Heroes of Normandie, Heroes of Black Reach, etc."
Does anyone have any better names, lol. I want the game to be easily searchable by both "Heroes of Normandie" and "Heroes of Black Reach", because I think that's what people will be searching for the most.
Next, I'm going to work on scripting. I've already made some great progress. When I release in a couple of weeks, you will be able to play any mission from the Core Box with just 1 click!
After laying this foundation, it will be very quick to add more punchboards and missions. The scripting required for "setting up" a mission will be very minimal and understandable to someone with minimal experience coding.
Cheers!
@Boresight: Great catch! Thank you for finding this error. I've made a note in the Google Drive folder [drive.google.com] in the Saint Mere Eglise sub-folder.
If any of you want to add me on steam so we can work out something like work on this mod together and stuff like that.
For the mod, please host the cards in a new location. The Google Drive folder [drive.google.com] is temporary.
Please let me know what else I can help with. I'm eager to see HoN uploaded to TTS. I'm moving in two weeks, and would like to continue playing HoN with my friends. In the long run, I'd like to upload Shadows over Normandie as well, and do some cool scripting for army buildilng :)
Here are the US cards, the card backs, and the card lists: Google Drive folder.
I will work more on these tomorrow.
I'm not sure if this helps, but there is a product index available for HoN [www.devil-pig-games.com].
I don't know where we can get the cards, aside from scanning them in. I did find this page with images from the Steam version of HoN [www.slitherine.com]. After a quick check, the pictures include 32/38 of the main USA cards, and also does not include Artillery or Airstrike cards.
I got most of what was available at the time on BGG and other sources.
