Do note that if you rotate your portal 90 degrees and stick it against the wall like that, it always work.
In general, having a puzzle that requires you to use trial and error gets tiring. I prefer a puzzle that you can just think through.I have very rarely quit a puzzle, and usually only because it was late, but this time I stopped because I was just bored of having to set up the same portals over and over.
