Maybe I will try it another time. I really and disappointed with 2.0 Stellaris and wanted something to replace it - but ES2.0 wasn't the answer for me - at least not last night. :-(
It's possible that mod changes something in the game beyond the starting location. I don't know one way or the other. I don't want you to feel like I'm rushing you or anything. I already started a game on a regular planet and everything works just fine right now. Just trying to get you as much info as possible.
No other variable or option I choose or mod I enable seems to make a difference, but if I choose the ring world as an option for my starting planet, then the research buff doesn't apply. I've even tested at keeping every variable the same, except changing the start planet to a conventional planet and the research buff applied. This seems to be a bug with both versions of your research mods.
