I fail to see the difference.

Done!

This mod now has its own LWOTC version. Check the description for the link.
4rrakis 2. jan. 2022 kl. 12:55
Thank you for that!
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 2. jan. 2022 kl. 12:50
OK, couldn't get the existing mod to work, likely because it was created for X2 and not WotC.

I'm downloading ModBuddy to try to create a new version of this mod for WotC.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 2. jan. 2022 kl. 7:44
@4rrakis
Maybe related to the load order, this mod should load last for it to work.
I'll see if I can get LWOTC running.
4rrakis 2. jan. 2022 kl. 7:08
Does not seem to work for me. The best approach seems to be replacing the color values in LWotC's config with yours.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 1. jan. 2022 kl. 21:41
OK, just had a look at LWOTC's files and it should be easy to use this mod together with it with a simple edit with Notepad.

1) Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\876043724\Config\ and open the XComLW_AlienVariations.ini file

2) On the first line of the file, replace [LW_AlienPack_Integrated.XComGameState_AlienCustomizationManager] with [LW_AlienPack_Integrated.X2EventListener_AlienCustomization]

3) Scroll down until you find this line:
[LW_AlienPack.XComGameState_AlienCustomizationManager]

4) Delete that line and every line after it until the end of the file.

5) Save XComLW_AlienVariations.ini

I haven't tested it because I'll need to install LWOTC but if anyone is willing to try it, please let me know if it worked.

Well, first nice to see that this mod is still being used after all this years.

A couple of months ago I decided to have an attempt at porting LW2's Advent units together with this mod to WotC but I haven't been successful. But now that LWOTC has reached 1.0, I might give it another attempt based on their work since they probably fixed the issues that were vexing me.

Second, about the attempts to manually change the tints, every time LWOTC gets updated, your edits will be erased and you'll have to do it again. The optimal solution is to create a specific version of this mod for LWOTC, which actually shouldn't be too difficult (it's mainly editing the XComLw_AlienVariations.ini file), I'll have a look at it.

Ah, sorry if my comments weren't entirely accurate. It's been a while since I done anything other than copy + pasting my custom config. That said, I am 100% certain that it is possible to recolor MEC archers, having done it myself. By the looks of things, it appears that adding the proper lines that the other units will properly recolor the archer. Essentially just copying the additional line on the Longbow and recoloring the Archer accordingly
blahturretx 30. dec. 2021 kl. 20:10
Follow up to below comment, you need to manually change the tints for each individual ADVENT unit for reasons I'm not 100% sure of (most likely missing units or changed names). This isn't a major issue, as instead of swapping out one file for another you instead go through the LWOTC XComLw_AlienVariations.ini file and change the tints of each ADVENT unit to match this mod. This currently works for every unit EXCEPT for MEC Archers (not Archers and Longbows, just archers), who are still green.
blahturretx 30. dec. 2021 kl. 19:27
Just tested the below fixes with LWOTC, it does not work for me at least. What ends up happening is the new ADVENT units are just floating heads. Right now I'm testing a fix that involves manually editing the LWOTC file with the new tints and stuff rather than simply swapping.
Crescent 27. dec. 2021 kl. 16:59
(2/2) After this, go into the LWOTC directory (steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2683996590), open the Config folder, drag in your XComLW_AlienVariations.ini that you copied from this mod into the folder, and when prompted, overwrite the XComLW_AlienVariations.ini in the folder with your new one. You should probably make a backup of the original version in case for whatever reason things go horribly wrong, but that's up to you. If you follow these steps, you will probably have a functioning version of this mod's changes working with LWOTC!

Oh, and for anyone who's used this with LW2: y'know that bug where sometimes, reinforcements or reloading a save would result in ADVENT using their original colors? A side effect of this approach is that that doesn't happen anymore, so that's pretty neat.
Crescent 27. dec. 2021 kl. 16:59
(1/2) If anyone is looking at this and wondering "is this compatible with LWOTC?," the answer is, with a minuscule amount of effort, yes (DISCLAIMER: I have not tested the use of this exact mod, but I have used the same technique below to apply my own custom configs, so it'll probably work fine).

To start, you'll want to go into this mod's folder (steamapps\workshop\content\268500\876043724), enter the config folder and make a copy of XComLW_AlienVariations.ini somewhere (This is all that we actually need this mod for, you can unsubscribe from it after this point if you wish. You won't want to activate it - I neither know nor care what will happen if you try, but it won't be anything useful).
Jimmy Carter 7. apr. 2021 kl. 12:10
Thank you SO much, I no longer feel like I'm fighting the goddamn Power Rangers.
Sofakingcool 28. feb. 2020 kl. 22:13
Update pls
Zeta_Enigma 7. nov. 2019 kl. 16:28
Yeah please update this mod, Long war of the chosen is pretty great and this mod too
Shavy 3. nov. 2019 kl. 12:27
hi since long war of the chosen is now a thing I was hoping you might make a compatibility to that for this outstanding mod.
Bunions 6. okt. 2019 kl. 19:25

is anyone having problems with the advent turning back to their original collors and not black,gray ect. when you load a save during a mission. Otherwise great mod Hobbes you can fixit whenever you want to just so you guys know.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 17. juli 2017 kl. 17:52
@all
With the upcoming changes in War ot the Chosen and since I've switched back to playing vanilla X2, I'm not going to update this mod for a while
Bunions 11. juli 2017 kl. 19:21
Nevermind I read further I think it was because of loading in on tac screen issue. Will try and confirm
Bunions 11. juli 2017 kl. 19:15
Is there a conflict with XCOM flag on back? https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=858721327
Eduardo 9. juli 2017 kl. 6:42
Awesome mod, and I really like the redesign that you applied to many of the advent soldiers. Fits way better thematically than the color coding.

I have a small question/request.
The advent grenadier and gunner both use xcom weapons, however the total advent armory mod contains both an advent version of mag cannons and grenade launchers. Can you give the grenadier and gunner their respective weaponry? It would really seal the deal for me, and I am sure for many others as well.
DerBk did the same for his aba version of those enemies, maybe he can tell you how he did it or help you.

And now I am probably asking too much lol, but in the future can you also give the viper king the plasma version of the boltcaster after the nest mission is completed? Its just kinda silly to me that he would choose to keep the basic bolt caster after he joins the aliens. Maybe also make the plasma that it shoots green, like the muton elite´s heavy plasma cannon.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 6. juli 2017 kl. 9:19
@insanem0th
Yeah I've seen the black and white lancer in the game files and it seems quite nice, but I never figured out how to edit the vanilla units.

@Ayy LMAO
It's possible but as said before, I'm really not an expert there
Slappy 2. juli 2017 kl. 19:36
@Hobbes I THINK I know why in the original colors when they appear as reinforcements or are triggered; I believe cinematic shots like the those use character models with more polygons and higher quality textures,because your camera is so close to the character,then again I'm not 100% sure.
insanem0th 23. maj 2017 kl. 13:26
Ever thought about making sun lancers black and white like the image in cutting room floor stuff that was binned? They look awesome would love to see this variation.

Rosenthorn 5. apr. 2017 kl. 17:21
It'd be awesome to have atleast some colour coding for easy recognition. Like the red trim changing.
Pyro Fennec 24. mar. 2017 kl. 10:53
I'll try, I just haven't been playing much lately because that "camera stuck under avenger" bug every 3-4 missions is getting really old... but I'll see what I can do.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 24. mar. 2017 kl. 10:12
If it's possible, please try to take a screenshot next time you see units with mixed colors, since that would prove that there is an issue
Pyro Fennec 24. mar. 2017 kl. 9:57
I honestly cannot say for sure. I hadn't been keeping THAT close an eye on their appearance at the time, I admit.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 24. mar. 2017 kl. 9:37
Are you sure it's not the issue mentioned on the description where some ADVENT units will revert to their LW2 colors when they're activated/deployed? Because otherwise I've currently have no idea of what might be causing your issue
Pyro Fennec 24. mar. 2017 kl. 9:12
I'm pretty sure it's working at least partially - alongside that orange rocketeer I did see an Archer MEC with a white paintjob (and, admittedly, green mortar on the back), and I have been seeing the guys with the white shieldbearer body with red lancer helmet as well.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 23. mar. 2017 kl. 18:12
@Pyro Fennec
I don't how it's possible to have both versions appearing during a mission, I'd think more likely that you misidentified them but from your description of the grenadiers it definitely looks like the previous reported issue that Back is Black needs to be after LW2 in the mod loading order, otherwise you'll get the LW2 color settings.
Pyro Fennec 23. mar. 2017 kl. 8:15
I should point out I've run into one variant of rocketeer that was still the orange armour style on several occasions, alongside the updated version. Also not sure if grenadiers' style has changed at all, but I've been seeing the predominantly red ones a lot as well. Might be related to advanced/regular unit types.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 22. mar. 2017 kl. 12:53
I guess you haven't noticed in the mod description: "
It includes support for the Alien Pack previously released by Pavonis Interactive"

What you need to do is install both this mod and LW2 (as it is required) but don't select LW2 on the mod launcher. Or just uninstall LW2 after you install this mod.
Mac Dog64 22. mar. 2017 kl. 11:50
Agreed. I forgot i was reffering to the new advent units in the long war alien mod without installing long war 2:)
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 22. mar. 2017 kl. 9:17
@Mac Dog64
I've looked into applying this to the vanilla units but the colors are hard-coded, which makes everything a lot more difficult. But since I'm OK with the vanilla colors this isn't a priority
Mac Dog64 22. mar. 2017 kl. 8:45
Hi dude any luck with a vanilla version, i really want to put this in my mod list:)
superslayer 21. mar. 2017 kl. 11:17
I never minded the grey, red, black or white units as the MECh's where also white. I just found long war two colourful
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 21. mar. 2017 kl. 10:37
Just uploaded a new version of this mod with a few ruleset fixes and changes to the Rockeeteer (switched from white to black and changed back his helmet to the Shieldbearer's)

I also tried to change all vanilla ADVENT units to black (Shieldbearer, Lancer) but with no success.
superslayer 21. mar. 2017 kl. 6:21
I found loading the only real problem, it simply changes the enemy back to thier base colour, but this is not much of a problem as in cutscenes they return to thier black armor, only drop ship leaders switch thier colours back to the old scheme in cutscenes, in ghameplay they remain black. Initally it looked cool when a sentry led a reinforcement squad as they appeared like a luietenant. regardless this is a wicked mod and really cool
AngelOfIron 20. mar. 2017 kl. 1:04
@Hobbes___
Thank ya much for the heads-up, on all accounts! ^_^
BE02-Raziel 19. mar. 2017 kl. 22:11
Regen'ing the MyDoc .inis is a bit of a pain on my side. But you're right, that is a really important procedure. Thanks for suggesting it because otherwise, I'd be too lazy to even regen them. :P I'll update you when things are well.
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 19. mar. 2017 kl. 16:26
@Oberfuhrer-Razgriz
I had that issue a couple weeks ago, I ended up doing what you described plus deleting the local config files.
BE02-Raziel 19. mar. 2017 kl. 14:37
Hey. So... In my recent mission, I'm getting Rainbow Troopers again. :/ Not sure what went wrong but I'm going resub, throw the mod up the load order to see if that does anything and test it tomorrow. Otherwise, any ideas what broke?
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 19. mar. 2017 kl. 8:51
@AngelOfIron
The file you need to change is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\876043724\Config\

If you change the file on the location previously posted it will change the LW2 mod. Regardless of which file you change remember to make a backup copy otherwise you'll lose your changes when the mod is updated.

I'm going to be doing some testing today with an all black color scheme, similar to what you have in mind
Pully 18. mar. 2017 kl. 7:24
Yay, no more rainbow soldiers and mecs.
Good work, didnt even think of editing the .ini files to do this myself.
AngelOfIron 16. mar. 2017 kl. 20:10
Hobbes___
No kidding? So all I'd have to do in order to get the Peacekeeper colors I was talkin' about was to find the line for the Lancer, then copy the proper line of code and paste it where applicable?
Hobbes___  [ophavsmand] 16. mar. 2017 kl. 7:08
@AngelOfIron
All you need to do to change the colors yourself is to open the XComLW_AlienVariations.ini file with Notepad or Notepad++ and edit the values yourself
You can find the file on C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\844674609\Config\ folder and the lines you need to change go like:
ColorValue=(R=0.073828, G=0.073828, B=0.073828, A=1.0)
Where R = Red, G = Green and B = Blue
AngelOfIron 16. mar. 2017 kl. 5:40
@Hobbes___
That's precisely why I was askin' if it'd be possible at some point to request a custom variation of this lovely mod of yours. I'd do it myself, but, alas, my modding skills are... let's just say "less than adequate." I'd totally understand if you didn't want to take the time to undertake such a task at the behest of one simple user, however! After all, everything in that thread is awfully ambitious!
